1. 카오산 로드(Khaosan Road)
카오산 로드 거리
파야타이 역에서 70밧(2600원) 정도에 배낭 여행객의 천국으로 유명한 카오산 로드에 도착할 수 있었다. 이미 국내 여행책자 및 많은 블로그 포스팅으로 개략적인 정보를 얻었던 터라, 그렇게 새롭지 않았다. 그리고 가장 태국적이지 않은 곳으로 태국인보다 유럽인이 더 많이 보이는 곳이다. 관광지기 때문에 당연한 얘기긴 하겠지만.... 비행기 티켓 하나만 달랑 가지고 왔던 터라, 주변을 적당히 둘러보다가 그럴싸해보이는 댕덤 호텔(1인 850, 2인 1050, 디파짓 500)에 묶기로 했다. From Phaya Thai station, we could arrive on Khaosan road, which is famous street for bag packers, with 70 baht. It was not just new cuz we've got some info. from many travel book and blogs. And it's the most unlike Thailand, European is seen so much than Thai people. (Asian travelers as well) Of course, it's sightseeing place though. We just came here with flight ticket. For accommodation, we looked around a bit to find right one. We decided to stay in Dangdum hotel (850 for 1, 1050 for 2, Deposit 500) after all.

방은 정말 그냥 그렇다. 카오산 로드에 계속 머물거나 현지 여행사를 이용할 경우에 접근성이 좋다는 것 빼면 큰 이점은 없다. 오히려 시내로 나가기엔 근처에 역이 없어 더 불편하다. 여기서 잡는 택시/툭툭 기사들은 약아서 개인 교통을 이용하기도 좀 그렇다. 옥상에 수영장도 있지만 우리를 제외한 동양인을 볼 수는 없었다. 비키니에 썬탠하는 늘씬한 미녀 하나만 좋았다.
The room was just so so. There's no advantage except the case of staying around Khaosan and using travel agency. Even worse when we'd like to go to central of Bangkok cuz there's no station around . For using private transportation, we had to argue with taxi and toktok drivers cuz they are quite cunning. On the top of Dangdom, there's a pool but nothing special except beautiful slender girls. Also could see any Asians except us.

워낙 더워서 방에서 나가면 바로 땀이 났다. 시원한 옷을 사기 위해 근처에서 쇼핑을 했는데, 옷사는 방식이 참 흥미롭다. 기본적으로 옷에 명확한 가격 기준이 없다. 200,150 이런식으로 써있지만, 돌아서버리면 금방 붙어 가격을 깎아준다. 심지어 얼마냐고 물어보면, 얼마 줄 수 있냐고 물어보는 사람들도 많다. 흥정하는 것을 좋아하는 친구들이라면 재밌게 즐길 수 있을 것 같다. 아무리 못해도 최초 가격에서 50바트는 바로 깎을 수 있다. 제 값을 주고 좋은 옷을 사고 싶으면, 방콕 중심가에 있는 대형 쇼핑몰을 이용하자.
It's too hot out there. can get sweat right after we're out For buying some cool clothes, we did shopping around hotel. It's quite interesting to see the way of buying clothes. Basically, there's no apparent criteria for each one. On the tag, there's 200, 150 and etc, but when we turned they gave us discount for that. Even they asked me "how much you can give" when I asked them about the price. If someone likes these kinds of process, he might have fun. At least, you can reduce 50 baht for each item from initial price. If you'd like to buy good and cool one with right price, better to use shopping center in the central Bangkok.

나는 민소매 셔츠만 구입하고 악세서리 가게로 갔다. 카오산 로드에는 아래와 같은 악세서리를 참 많이 판매하는데, 아래 가게는 프로페셔널한 느낌이 들어 비교적 높은 값임에도 망설임없이 구매했다. 사장은 유럽인이었고 매니저는 미국에서 자란 태국 친구였는데, 구매를 종용하는 행동은 일절하지 않고 질문에 대한 답변에 충실한 점이 너무 좋았다 범용적인 팔찌 1(150), 그들이 디자인했다는 목걸이 1(480)를 구매했다. (Body touch : http://www.bodytouchonline.com/ )
I just bought one and went to accessory shop. On Khaosan road, there's many accessory shops. But this shop looked quite different cuz it's professional. Because of that, I didn't hesitate buying them even with high price compared with others. The boss was European, and manager was Thai who were has raised in US. I felt so nice of his attitude. No push at all for buying and gave great answer about my questions. So, it brought me to buy a common bracelet and a designed necklace by them.

방콕으로 휴가를 다녀오겠다고 하니, 주변분들이 쓸데없는 거 먹지말고 싼 값에 좋은 과일 많이 먹고오라고 하셨다. 과일을 까먹자니 귀찮아 신선한 과일 믹스를 자주 먹었는데(30-40 밧) 설탕 맛이 많이 느껴지는 걸보니 몸에 좋을 것 같진 않았다. 진짜 과일은 정말 싸다.
When I talked about Bangkok vacation, many people told me that it's way better to have great fruits than others. It's annoying to have it on the streets so I often bought fresh fruits mix(30-40 baht). But it didn't look good for health cuz I could taste sugar inside it.. Real fruits are really cheap there.

2. 사원 (Temple)
태국에는 사원이 참 많다. 카오산 근처에 있는 사원에 갔는데, 나에게는 아름다운 사원속의 불상보다 똘망똘망한 눈망울을 가진 애기가 더 사랑스럽고 신기했다. 워낙 사원을 많이 가서 일일이 이름을 못 외우겠다.
There's tons of temples in Thailand. We went to one around Khaosan road. For me, the young lady who has bright eyes was much lovely and impressive than the statues in a temple.

재미있었던 것은 잠깐 이야기를 나누고 사진을 찍었던 스님에게 사진을 가져가실 수 있게 페북에 올릴겠다고 했더니, 친절하게 페북 주소를 주셨는데... 쪽지를 여행 중에 잃어버렸다. ㅠ 스님이 제발 우연히 내 페북을 발견했으면 한다.
An interesting thing happened in a temple. I talked with a monk for a while and we took a picture together. And I asked him permission to upload the pic on my facebook. Then he gave me his facebook address to share it together. But.. I lost it on my travel.. I hope the monk can find my facebook someday.

휴양삼아 왔던 방콕에서 우연히 민주화 기념 공원에 가게 되었고, 기다렸다는 듯한 현지인을 만나 역사 이야기를 듣다보니 어떤 경계가 풀렸던 것 같다. 관광 책자에는 표현되어 있지 않은 현지 문화와 역사를 느낄 수 있다는 욕심이 생겼던 것인데.. 이 때까지만 해도 어떤 일이 우리를 기다리고 있을지 알지 못했다.
In the travel for just relieving in Bangkok, we visited Democracy Monument Park by accident, and we met Thai guy as if he'd waited for us in that place. It seemed to let our suspicion against foreigner free after we heard some histories from him. That was because I got some proud of that we could feel real culture and history which is not expressed on travel books. But I couldn't realize that something will come up to us soon at this moment...
