Kai Greene & Cedric McMillan Fight It Out
The 2016 Arnold Classic almost appears to be a sequel to last year’s rendition. Rewind 12 months and we had Arnold Schwarzenegger publicly declaring Cedric McMillan as the poster boy for aesthetic bodybuilding, while decrying the fact that in all too many cases swollen midsections were not uncommon in the current pro ranks.
And so what do we have this year? According to the judging process, Cedric McMillan — with this old school Arnoldesque lines — being either first or second. His counterpart for top spot being Kai Greene, he who brought these freaky body part to the big dance in tandem with a midsection that from the get-go was distended.
Given last year’s Arnold-driven drama, and subsequent warnings since, it seemed that such a gut issue would be punished with a lower placing than the rest of the physique deserved,
In fact when the first four-man comparison (Kai Greene, Josh Lenartowicz, Cedric McMillan, Justin Compton) was called Kai was left on the far left, prompting the thought that had he already been penalized, as usually in such a call the two front-runners would be in the middle.
That thought was unfounded as the twosome were called for the last and deciding comparison.
In any case, here’s how I saw the comparisons between Greene and McMillan.
Front double biceps : McMillan
Front lat : Greene
Side chest : Equal
Back biceps : Greene
Back lat : Greene
Side triceps : McMillan
Abs & Thighs : McMillan
Most Muscular : McMillan
Of course that is a personal view and the bottom line is we'll have to wait for tonight’s finals (which commence at 7.00pm EST) to see if Kai Kai’s midsection problems are going to be overlooked, or indeed (with the posing round being judged) his posing carries the day. The kicker being that Arnold will be seated front and center (he was not at the prejudging) as this Freak vs. Aesthetics battle plays out.
