윤석열 대통령 당선인이 11일 크리스토퍼 델 코소 주한미국대사대리 를 접견하면서 나눈 대화
윤 당선인: 한국의 유일한 동맹국가는 미국입니다. 우리는 서로의 안보를 피로써 지키기로 약조한 그런 국가이기 때문에 이에 걸맞은 관계가 다시 자리를 잡아야 할 것으로 생각합니다. 우리는 북한의 6·25 남침 전쟁을 통해 미국과 굳건한 안보동맹을 맺은 것이 국가 발전의 원동력이 됐으며, 우리는 이로 인해 경제와 사회 시스템에서 도움을 많이 받아왔고, 앞으로 한미 간에 모든 부분에서 굳건한 관계가 재건이 될 수 있도록 그리고 그것이 세계의 평화 번영에 기여할 수 있다고 생각합니다. 우리는 함께 경제, 기후 협력, 보건의료, 첨단 기술 등 모든 의제들이 한미 간 혈맹관계를 바탕으로 포괄적으로 결정해나야 한다고 생각합니다.
델 코소 주한 미국 대사대리: 저는 이번 선거에서 한국 국민들이 자신의 생각을 당당히 담은 소중한 한 표를 행사하시고, 이를 통해 한국 민주주의의 활력과 국민의 저력을 보여주셨다고 생각합니다. 특히 올해는 한국과 미국이 수교를 맺은 지 140주년이 된 해입니다. 이런 측면에서 한미동맹은 그 어느 때보다 굳건하다고 생각합니다. 한미 양국은 한국전쟁의 전쟁터에서 혈맹을 맺었고, 이를 통해 가장 굳건하고 물 샐 틈 없고 탄력적인 확고한 양국의 동맹 관계를 구축해왔습니다. 이를 탄탄한 기반으로 삼아 양국은 경제적·사회적 관계를 맺어왔고, 이것이 오늘날 번성하는 한국 민주주의에 기여했다고 생각합니다.
동시에 우리는 새로운 도전 과제와 위협에도 대처를 하고 있으며, 한국과 미국의 미래세대들이 이것을 함께 증명하고 있습니다. 주한 미국대사관 모든 직원은 새로운 행정부와 긴밀한 협력을 통해 양국의 동맹관계를 더욱 더 확대할 것이고, 전략적 동맹을 활용해 지역뿐 아니라 전 세계에서 좋은 일을 많이 하고자 합니다. 우리는 계속해서 민주주의가 국민 모두를 위해 성과를 낼 수 있다는 것을 보여줄 것입니다. 대한민국 국민의 활발한 시민활동 참여라든지 공정선거를 치러낸 것을 보면 한국이 진정한 민주주의의 롤모델이라 할 수 있습니다.
당선된 지 얼마 안 돼서, 거의 직후에 바이든 대통령께서 축하전화를 드릴 수 있어서 굉장히 감사하고 기쁘게 생각합니다. 정상 차원의 쿼드 정상회담이 언제 치러질지 정해진 것은 없지만, 멜버른에서 진행된 것을 보면 쿼드 협의체에 관한 미국정부의 의지를 볼 수 있다고 생각합니다. (당신이) 백악관에서 공개한 인도-태평양전략을 보면 잘 아실 것입니다. 거기엔 적절한 시기, 적절한 방식에 따른 한일관계 개선의 중요성을 담고 있습니다.

일본 기시다 총리와 통화
윤 당선자: 기시다 총리님의 축하 전화 감사합니다. 특히 오늘 3·11 동일본 대지진 11주기를 맞아 일본 동북지방 희생자와 가족분들, 피해를 입은 모든 분께 깊은 위로의 말씀을 드립니다. 한국과 일본 양국은 동북아 안보와 경제번영 등 향후 힘을 모아야 할 미래 과제가 많은 만큼 양국 우호협력 증진을 위해 함께 협력해 나갑시다. 양국 현안을 합리적으로 상호 공동이익에 부합하도록 해결해나가는 것이 중요합니다. 취임 후 한미일 3국이 한반도 사안 관련 공조를 더욱 강화해 나가길 기대합니다. 저는 한·일 두 나라의 미래세대 청년들의 상호 문화 이해와 교류 증진이 필요하다고 생각합니다.
기시다 총리: 한일은 서로 중요한 이웃나라입니다. 국제사회가 시대를 구분하는 큰 변화에 직면한 가운데, 건전한 한일관계는 원칙에 근거한 국제질서를 지키고, 지역과 세계의 평화, 안정, 번영을 확보하는 데 있어 필수적입니다. 우리는 1965년 국교정상화 이후 구축해 온 한일의 우호협력관계를 기반으로 한일관계를 발전시켜 나갈 필요가 있습니다. 저는 윤 차기 대통령의 리더십을 기대합니다.

윤 당선인: 시 주석의 축전에 감사합니다. 한·중 관계 발전을 위해 양국 지도자의 역할이 중요하며, 책임 있는 세계국가로서 중국의 역할이 충족되기를 우리 국민이 기대하고 있습니다. 고위급 회담 정례화 등 소통을 강화해 한·중 수교 30주년의 의미를 발전시켜 나갑시다.
아무리 들어도 싫증나지 않는 우리 대통령의 이 멋지고 당당한 한 마디: “우리 국민은 책임 있는 세계국가로서 중국의 역할을 제대로 해 주길 바랍니다.”너무나 오랜 만에 들어 본 대한민국 대통령의 자신감 넘치는 발언, 속이 뻥 뚫리는 통괘함, 십년 묵은 체증이 싹 내려간다. 너무 시원하다. 진짜 살 맛이 난다. 대통령의 말 한 마디는 이처럼 국민의 자존심을 지켜주고 자신감과 용기를 심어주는 힘이 있다.

The new president's remarks were cool and confident

President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol had a conversation with Christopher Del Coso, deputy ambassador to Korea, on the 11th.
Yoon-elect: Korea's only ally is the United States. We are countries that have pledged to protect each other's security with blood. Therefore, I think the right relationship should be established again. The two countries formed a solid security alliance during North Korea's Korean War Invasion from North Korea. It became the driving force behind the development of our country. We have received a lot of help from this in the economic and social systems. I believe that solid relations between Korea and the United States can be rebuilt in all areas in the future and I think it can contribute to the world's peace and prosperity. Together, we think that all agendas, including economy, climate cooperation, health care, and advanced technology, should be decided comprehensively based on blood alliance relations between Korea and the United States.
Del Cosso, U.S. Ambassador to Korea: I think the Korean people exercised a precious vote that proudly expressed their thoughts in this election, showing the vitality of Korean democracy and the power of the people. In particular, this year marks the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and the United States. In this respect, I think the Korea-U.S. alliance is stronger than ever. The two countries formed a blood alliance on the battlefield of the Korean War, and through this, we have built the strongest and most resilient and firm alliance between the two countries. Based on this, the two countries have established economic and social relations. I think this contributed to today's prosperous Korean democracy.
At the same time, we are coping with new challenges and threats. Future generations in Korea and the United States are proving this together. All employees of the U.S. Embassy in Korea will further expand the alliance between the two countries through close cooperation with the new administration. And we want to do a lot of good things not only in the region but also around the world using strategic alliances. We will continue to show that democracy can produce results for all citizens. Looking at the active civic activities and fair elections of the Korean people, Korea is a role model for true democracy.
I'm very grateful and happy that President Biden could give you a congratulatory call almost immediately after you were elected. Nothing has been decided when the top-level quad summit will be held. However, I think we can see the U.S. government's commitment to the quad consultative body from what happened in Melbourne. You will know well from the Indo-Pacific strategy released by the White House. It contains the importance of improving Korea-Japan relations at the right time and in the right way.

A phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida.
Yoon-elect: Prime Minister Kishida, thank you for your congratulatory call. In particular, on the 11th anniversary of the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake, I would like to express my deep condolences to victims, families, and everyone affected in northeastern Japan. Both Korea and Japan have many future tasks to work together in the future, including security and economic prosperity in Northeast Asia. So let's work together to promote friendly cooperation between the two countries. It is important to resolve pending issues between the two countries in a reasonable manner in mutual common interests. After taking office, I hope that the three countries, South Korea, the U.S., and Japan, will further strengthen cooperation on issues on the Korean Peninsula. Prime Minister Kishida: Korea and Japan are important neighboring countries. Yoon-elect: Thank you for President Xi's celebration. I think the role of leaders of both countries is important for the development of Korea-China relations. Our Koreans expect China to meet its role as a responsible world country. Let's develop the meaning of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and China by strengthening communication, such as regularizing high-level talks.
This is a cool and confident word from our president. I never get tired of hearing his saying: "Our people hope China will play its role properly as a responsible world country." This is the confident remark of the President of the Republic of Korea that I haven't heard in a long time. This word is very clear. It made me feel like long-standing problem has been solved. Like this, every word of the president has the power to protect the pride of the people and instill confidence and courage.
