레인보우는 레드 제프린과 함께 하드 록의 양대 산맥이라는 딥 퍼플에서 활동하던 기타리스트 리치 블랙모어(Ritchie Blackmore)가 미국 하드록 밴드 엘프(Elf)와 함께 만든 5인조 하드록 밴드. 이 곡은1975년 발표한 레인보우의 첫 데뷰 앨범 Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow에 수록된 곡으로 리치 블랙모어가 작곡, 보컬을 담당한 로니 제임스 디오(Ronnie James Dio)가 가사를 썼다.

디오는 역대 위대한 록 보컬리스트중 한사람으로 평가받고 있는데 1979년 레인보우를 탈퇴하고 오지 오스본(Ozzy Osbourne)이 빠진 블랙 사바스(Black Sabbath)의 보컬리스트로 참여하기도 했다.

가사가 무엇을 얘기하는 것인지 알 수가 없다. 혹자는 아서왕의 전설에 대해 쓴 것이라고도 하는데 확실치가 않다. 가사에 나오는 Year of the fox가 무엇을 뜻하는지도 여러 곳을 찾아봐도 알 수가 없고...
