두개의 이벤트가 중복되어 고심하다 그래도 영사관에서 주최하는 곳을 골랐다. 그리 큰 기대를 하고 보지는 않았지만 그래도 어느 정도의 수준은 되리라고 생각했기 때문이다. 결과는 딱 생각했던 수준이다. 사무라이 쿠킹은 잘만 구성하면 좋은 영화를 만들 수도 있는 요리와 일본에 관한 내용이다. 그런데 좀 부족하다.

영화니까 가능한 내용이기는 하지만 그래도 검술이 뛰어난 사람이 요리는 엉망으로 한다든지, 그 요리솜씨가 몇 개월만에 뛰어나게 향상된다든지, 영주암살에 가담하려 했는데 처형을 받지않았다든지, 별 솜씨도 없으면서 친구의 처형에 반대하여 요리를 않하겠다고 한다든지... 마지막으로 먹고살기도 힘든데 남편의 첫사랑을 위해 집을 나온다는 설정도 이해하기 어렵다.

한마디로 재료는 신선한데 요리는 재료를 망치는 수준이 아닌가 한다. 그래도 심심풀이로 보기는 나쁘지 않았지만 리셉션이라고 준비한 것이 영화를 시작하기전 잔소리에 비해 엉망이어서 손님들이 줄을 서서 기다리기 싫어 포기하게 만든 것이 아닌가 하는 생각까지 든다. 권리만 신경쓰고 의무는 생각하지 않는 것이 일본식이 아닌가 하는 느낌까지 가지게 한다.

Plot

Set within the Kaga Domain of the Edo Period.

Oharu (Aya Ueto) is an excellent cook and recognized for her skills. Due to her cooking talents, she marries Yasunobu (Kengo Kora), who is an heir in the Funaki family. The Funaki family serves as the cook for the Kaga Domain. Nevertheless, Yasunobu himself is a terrible cook. With the help of Oharu's mother-in-law Mitsuru (Kimiko Yo), she begins to teach Yasunobu how to cook.
