[틈틈이 영어공부] talk (someone) out of ~ing
- 영한 : 설득해서 ~그만두게 하다(=dissuade)
※dissuade (someone) from ~
- 영영 : [Verb] (transitive) To talk to someone in order to dissuade them from doing something.
- 반대 : talk (someone) into ~ing / 설득해서 ~하게 하다(=persuade).
- 예문 :
She tried to talk him out of leaving.
그녀는 그가 떠나지 않도록 설득하려고 했다.
It’s no good trying to talk me out of leaving.
나에게 떠나지 말라고 설득하려 해 봐야 소용없다.

스캇: 다른 차를 찾아보겠다고 하더라고.
[기억할만한 표현]
*get to (do something): (무엇을 할) 시간이나 기회가 있다.
“I hope I get to play some golf this weekend.” (이번 주말에 골프를 좀 칠 시간이 있었으면 좋겠어.)
*throw money down the drain: 돈을 길에 뿌리다.
“When he bought two laptops I thought he was throwing money down the drain.” ( 그 사람 랩탑을 두 대나 샀다니 돈을 길에 뿌리고 다니는군.)
*look around for (someone or something): 여기 저기 찾다.
