[틈틈이 영어공부] I chickened out.
- 영한 : 꼬리를 내리다/꽁무니를 빼다. 막판에 뒤로 빼다, 겁을 먹고 그만두다, (무서워서 겁을 먹고) 도망가다.
- 영영 : If someone chickens out of something they were intending to do, they decide not to do it because they are afraid.
- 예문 :
I always chicken out of everything.
나는 항상 모든 것에 겁을 낸다.
If you chicken out this time, I’ll never plan a trip with you again.

토니: 그럼 전화하지 그래. 예쁘던대.
Andre: I was on the verge last night but I chickened out. I guess I'm too shy.
안드레: 어젯밤에 할 뻔 했는데 막판에 관뒀어. 난 부끄럼을 너무 타나 봐.
Tony: You? Too shy? I don't think so. You should call her.
토니: 네가? 너무 부끄럼을 탄다고? 너 안 그러잖아. 전화해.
Andre: I will… I will when I have the time.
안드레: 할 거야…시간 날 때 할 거야.
Tony: I mean now! There's no time to lose!
토니: 지금 하라고! 우물쭈물할 시간 없어!
Andre: I don't want her to think I'm too anxious.
안드레: 내가 안달이 났다고 생각할까 봐 그래.
Tony: Let me put it this way. If you don't call her I will.
토니: 이렇게 말하면 어때. 네가 전화 안 하면 내가 할거야.
[기억할만한 표현]
▶ can’t get (someone or something) out of your mind: 마음에서 지우지 못하다. 자꾸 생각나다.

▶ on the verge (of): 막 ~을 하려는 직전.
