Ji Hyun: I did it! One whole year and I did it!
지현: 해냈어! 꼬박 만에 1년 해냈어!
Tyler: Congratulations! You completed your English course.
타일러: 축하해! 너 영어 강좌 다 끝낸 거야.
Ji Hyun: I'm really happy I stuck it out.
지현: 내가 견뎌내다니 정말 기뻐.
Tyler: Did you ever think about giving it up?
타일러: 포기할 생각 한 적 있어?
Ji Hyun: Never. I loved almost every class. It was difficult but I think I learned a lot.
지현: 전혀. 거의 모든 수업이 좋았어. 어려웠지만 많이 배웠다고 생각해.
Tyler: No two ways about it. Your English has gotten much better.
타일러: 그건 확실하다. 너 영어 정말 많이 늘었어.
Ji Hyun: It's been a big part of my life for a year.
지현: 지난 1년은 내 인생에서 정말 중요한 시기였어.
Tyler: Well it paid off. I'm proud of you.
타일러: 그게 원하던 걸 얻었고. 네가 자랑스러워.
Ji Hyun: Thanks. I couldn't have done it without your help.
지현: 고마워. 네가 도와주지 않았다면 못 했을 거야.
Tyler: Yes you could have. I didn't help you that much.
타일러: 아니야 그래도 넌 해냈을 거야. 난 별로 도와준 거 없어.
기억할만한 표현
*stick it out: 참다. 견디다.
“I’m going to stick it out just to prove I can do it.” (전 그저 할 수 있다는 것을 보여주려 참을 겁니다.)
*give (something) up: (습관을) 딱 끊다. 포기하다. (또는 give up something)
“She gave smoking up when she got pregnant.” (그녀는 임신하면서 담배를 끊었어.)
*pay off: 바라던 대로 되다. 소기의 성과를 거두다.
“He tried many times to get his green card before it finally paid off.” (그는 여러 번 애써서 마침내 영주권을 손에 넣었어.)
