Stop the Brutal Political Persecution of Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Petition for the Emergency Transfer of Former President Yoon Suk-yeol to the United States for Protection To: The Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee The United Nations Human Rights Council International Human Rights Watch Groups On behalf of the freedom-loving people of the Republic of Korea, we urgently appeal to the international community regarding the dire and unprecedented situation faced by former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife, Kim Keon-hee. On August 7, 2025, a horrifying scene unfolded in a democratic country that once prided itself on the rule of law. Former President Yoon, who defended the constitution and resisted anti-state forces, was subjected to inhumane and unlawful treatment during a politically motivated arrest. While attempting to meet his legal counsel at the detention center, he was suddenly ambushed by over ten investigators who attempted to forcibly drag him into a vehicle. He resisted peacefully, stating the illegality of the arrest, but was thrown from a chair and sustained injuries to his back and arm in the process. His legal counsel, present during the entire episode, was threatened with charges of obstruction for trying to protect his client’s rights. The entire event constitutes a grave violation of international human rights standards and democratic norms. To make matters worse, Mrs. Kim Keon-hee, the wife of the former President, is also facing an arrest warrant, clearly indicating a coordinated campaign of political persecution targeting the entire Yoon family. We, as defenders of freedom and constitutional democracy, urge the United States of America and the international community — the global guardians of liberty — to act immediately. We respectfully request the following: 1. Launch an international investigation into the current detention and treatment of President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife. 2. Issue an official condemnation from the United States Government regarding the political persecution and human rights abuses taking place in South Korea. 3. Direct the U.S. Embassy in Seoul to immediately assess the physical condition and legal treatment of President Yoon. 4. Collaborate with the United Nations to convene an emergency hearing on the political retaliation occurring in South Korea. 5. Most urgently, we appeal to the United States Government to offer emergency asylum or extradition protection and facilitate the immediate transfer of President Yoon and Mrs. Kim Keon-hee to the United States for their safety. We believe that only the united efforts of the free world can now protect freedom and democracy in Korea. 자유를 사랑하는 대한민국 국민을 대표하여, 우리는 윤석열 전 대통령과 그의 부인 김건희 여사가 직면한 심각하고 전례 없는 상황에 대해 국제사회에 긴급히 호소합니다. 2025년 8월 7일, 법치주의를 자랑하던 대한민국에서 믿을 수 없는 장면이 벌어졌습니다. 반국가 세력에 맞서 헌법을 수호했던 윤석열 전 대통령은 정치적 보복의 일환으로 비인도적이고 불법적인 체포를 당했습니다. 그는 구치소 접견실에서 변호인을 만나기 위해 이동하던 중, 10명이 넘는 수사관들에게 기습적으로 포위되어 강제로 차량에 태워지려 했습니다. 그는 체포의 불법성을 지적하며 평화적으로 저항했지만, 의자에서 뒤로 넘어지며 허리와 팔에 부상을 입었습니다. 현장에 있던 변호인마저도 이를 제지하려 하자 공무집행방해로 처벌하겠다는 협박을 받았습니다. 이는 명백한 국제 인권 기준과 민주주의 원칙에 대한 중대한 위반입니다. 상황은 더 악화되었습니다. 윤 전 대통령의 부인 김건희 여사 역시 구속영장이 청구되어, 사실상 가족 전체를 겨냥한 정치적 숙청이 진행 중입니다. 우리는 자유와 헌정 질서를 지키기 위해, 미국과 국제사회—자유 세계의 수호자들에게—즉각적인 조치를 요청합니다. 우리는 다음과 같은 조치를 요청합니다: 1. 윤석열 전 대통령과 김건희 여사에 대한 현재의 구금 및 처우에 대해 국제 조사를 개시해 주십시오. 2. 대한민국 내 정치 보복과 인권 탄압에 대해 미국 정부의 공식적인 규탄 성명을 발표해 주십시오. 3. 주한미국대사관이 윤석열 전 대통령의 건강 상태와 법적 대우를 즉각적으로 점검해 주십시오. 4. 유엔과 협력하여 한국 내 정치보복 사안에 대한 긴급 청문회를 개최해 주십시오. 5. 무엇보다도, 윤석열 전 대통령과 김건희 여사의 신변 안전을 위해 미국으로의 긴급 망명 또는 인도적 보호 조치를 마련하고 즉시 이송을 추진해 주십시오. 우리는 오직 자유 세계의 연대만이 대한민국의 자유와 민주주의를 지킬 수 있다고 믿습니다. 부디 대한민국 국민과 함께해 주십시오. 전 세계에 폭정과 불의는 결코 용납되지 않음을 보여주십시오. 진심을 담아,
