'take a break'가 '깨지다' 의 뜻이 아니라 '잠깐 휴식을 취하다'의 뜻을 가지고,' give[lend] a hand'가 '손을 (잘라서^^) (빌려)주다'가 아니라 'help, aid, assist' 의 뜻이라는 것은 수능이나 인증시험 공부 열심히 한 분들은 잘 알 것이다.

1. sugar/sweeten the pill

to make an unpleasant thing less difficult to accept or deal with, to make something bad, unpleasant, or dissatisfactory easier to cope with, endure, or accept.

The bosses are giving everyone an extra 10% bonus this Christmas, but I suspect it's a way of sweetening the pill that there will be massive pay cuts in January.

Faster service may sugar the pill of higher fees.

 5. answer

(Knock-knock.)

Don't answer!

answer

to pick up (a ringing telephone) (전화)를 받다 [no obj] The phone rang repeatedly, but no one answered.[+ obj] Would somebody please answer the phone? answer a phone call
c :  to open a door when someone knocks on it 누가 문을 두드릴 때 열어 주다 [no obj] I knocked on the door but no one answered.[+ obj] No one answered the door.
