교과서나 수능 참고서 등에 [believe + 사람], [believe in + 사람]이 들어간 문장때문에 가끔 헷깔리게 한다. 미드나 영화, 애니 등에도 물론 나오고, 일상생활에도 사용되지만 명쾌하게 알려주지 않는다. 아래는 한 카페에 있는 질문과 답변내용이다. 이것이 대한민국 영어교육의 현실일 것이다.
believe in의 의미는 believe와 어떤 차이가 있나요?
차이가 있는 것으로 아는데 기억이 희미해서요. Believe in yourself and never anyone tell you~ 이런 식으로 나가는 문장입니다. 여기에 in이 쓰인 이유는 무엇인가요?

I believe in democracy. In this sentence, what you mean to say is that, in your opinion democracy is good. You are in favor of it because you think it's good or right.

[trust + 사람]과 [trust in + 사람]이 있습니다. 관심을 가질 것이라 생각하며 제언하는 수준에서.
