이곳에 Manjung Power Plant(만중화력발전소)가 생겨 대규모 석탄수입이 필요하기에 Lekir Bulk Terminal(LBT)이라는 발전소 부두가 생기고 이후 세계최대 철광석 광산개발업체인 브라질의 발레(VALE)사의 아시아 Distribution HUB로서 Teluk Lubiah Maritime Terminal(TRMT)을 건설하여 대형항만으로 발전하였다.
TRMT is strategically located along the Straits of Malacca, one of the world’s busiest shipping channels. The facility is comprised of a deep water wharf and a stockyard with a static capacity of 3.2 million tons of iron ore where different types of iron ore can be customised to the needs of regional steelmakers. The facility has a capacity of 30 million metric tons of iron ore per year for import and export respectively.
Equipped with an import system with the ability to unload vessels of up to 400,000 DWT and an export system with the capacity of loading vessels up to Capesize, the distribution centre’s operations are fully automated ensuring optimum efficiency in the process. In addition, the hub together with Vale’s fleet of Very Large Ore Carriers (Valemax) is an environmentally friendly solution for supplying high quality iron ore to the Asian market. The Valemax leads to a reduction of around 35% in GHG emissions for iron ore delivered to China, when compared to Capesizes from Brazil.
OVERVIEW: Bulk cargo port. Comprises a private facility handling the import and distribution of iron ore (Teluk Rubiah Maritime Terminal (TRMT)), and a coal berth (Lekir Bulk Terminal) supporting the Sultan Azlan Shah power station.
LOCATION: In Perak state on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The port faces the island of Pangkor in the Strait of Malacca, approx. 80 n.m. NNW of Port Klang.
