Top prospects in South RegionUF, KU and Cuse boast most NBA prospects in a region loaded with talent
3 년 연속으로 NCAA 토너먼트의 South Region이 다른 지역에 비해 전반적으로 NBA 드래프트 유망주들을 많이 보유하고 있다. 우리의 셈에 따르면 세 명의 로터리 픽 후보들에 더하여 아홉의 퍼스트 라운더 후보들이 속해 있다. 바꿔 말하자면 듬뿍 차있다는 얘기다.
Insider의 NBA 드래프트 팀은 시즌의 전 과정에 걸쳐 다양한 NBA 스카우트들 및 GM들과 이야기를 나눠봤다. 그래서 저 사람들의 피드백과 정보에 근거해서 여기 South Region에 속한 각 팀에 있는 상위 NBA 유망주들을 보는 시간을 가져 보고자 한다. 리스트의 순서는 잠재적인 로터리 픽들, 퍼스트 라운더들, 세컨드 라운더들 그리고 "다음 해까진 기다려 봐야 할" 플레이어들 순이다. (팀들은 시드 순으로 나열됐다.)
1. Florida GatorsPotential first-rounders: Chris Walker, F, freshman; Patric Young, C, senior
워커는 벤치에서 나오는 작은 역할을 플레이함에도 불구하고 가장 흥미를 끌고 있다. 워커가 지닌 신체길이와 운동 능력의 조합은 감질맛을 나게 한다. 시즌 전만 해도 워커는 많은 스카우트들이 로터리 픽 후보로 전망했었다. 지금은 다음 시즌에 게이터스에 잔류하는 쪽으로 기울고 있긴 하지만, 만약 참가 선언하기로 결정한다면 로터리 밖에서 도박을 감행할 의지가 있는 팀들로부터 많은 흥미를 받게 될 것이다. 영은 새내기와 2학년 시절에 로터리 픽 후보로 랭크되기도 했었으나 향상의 부족이 느껴지면서 스카우트들이 불만을 갖게 됐다. 그래도 몇몇 GM들은 그의 강력한 수비 쪽 플레이와 NBA 바디가 앞으로 몇 년 동안 리그에서 버틸 수 있도록 해줄 것이라 최근 말하기도 했다.
이 외에 여기에서 단기간 안에 짜릿함을 안겨줄 이는 없다. 프레이져는 멋진 3점슛팅 덕분에 자리를 차지할 것이다. 윌버킨은 포인트에서 가지는 그의 터프니스를 좋아하는 몇몇 NBA 스카우트들을 팬으로 두고 있다. 프레이저는 훌륭한 시즌을 보내고 있지만, 훌륭한 점퍼가 없다는 사실이 프로 가치를 갉아 먹고 있다. 힐과 피니스미스는 둘 다 퍼스트 라운더의 잠재력은 있지만, 빨라야 2015 년이 되기 전까지는 아니다.
2. Kansas Jayhawks
Potential lottery picks: Andrew Wiggins, G/F, freshman; Joel Embiid, C, freshman

엠비드는 등을 쉬게 하면서 토너먼트의 첫 두 경기들을 플레이하지 않을 것으로 예상된다. 그러나 플로어에 있을 때는 코트의 공수 양 진영에서 진정한 게임-체인져다. 등에 대해 심각한 장기적 이슈가 있지 않는 한, 드래프트에서 탑 3 픽들 중 하나는 따놓은 당상이다. 그리고 토너먼트에서 건강해진다면, 엠비드는 KU가 NCAA 타이틀을 놓고 경쟁할 때 필요한 푸쉬를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

3. Syracuse Orange
Potential lottery pick: Tyler Ennis, PG, freshman

그랜트는 뛰어난 운동선수로서 아직 고-투 공격 무브를 찾고 있는 중이지만, 재능은 아주 감질맛 나서 로터리 후반에서 선택받을 수 있다. 페어는 지금 현재 팀에서 가장 뛰어난 득점원이지만, 제법 엘리트의 도약력을 제외하면 그의 게임 상당 부분이 제대로 다음 레벨에 이전되진 못할 것이다. 까딱하면 세컨드 라운더도 놓칠 수 있다. 크리스마스와 콜먼은 NBA 팀들에 흥미를 돋굴 사이즈를 지녔지만, 생산성에 너무나 한계가 있어서 세컨드 라운더라 부르기도 힘든 상태다.
4. UCLA Bruins
Potential first-rounders: Zach LaVine, G, freshman; Kyle Anderson, F, sophomore
라빈은 벤치에서 나오며 한정된 시간을 플레이하지만, 폭발적인 운동 능력과 한계가 없는 점퍼 레인지는 스카우트들을 군침 흘리게 한다. 게임이 다듬어지지 않았고 근력을 덧댈 필요가 있지만 (2학년 시즌을 위해 잔류하는 것이 훨씬 낫다라는 의미, 특히 아담스가 참가 선언한다면), 몇몇 팀들은 장래성을 봐서라도 로터리 후반에서 퍼스트 라운드 중반에 걸쳐 뽑을 수도 있다.

윌리엄스는 작년 NBA 팀들로부터 퍼스트 라운더의 잠재력으로 어느 정도 눈길을 받았었다. 자기 포지션에 필요한 사이즈를 갖췄고 좋은 운동선수이며, 점프 샷이 꽂힐 때면 아주 위협적으로 될 수 있다. 커크는 사이즈가 장점이지만, 제대로 된 운동 능력이 전혀 없다는 점이 전망을 어둡게 한다. 베어스토우는 이번 시즌 뉴멕시코의 베스트 플레이어였다. 올드-스쿨 파워 포워드로서 페인트 안에서 영리함을 갖고 플레이하지만, 발이 느리고 탄력이 부족하여 드래프트 주가에 해가 되고 있다.
8. Colorado Buffaloes
Potential first-rounder: Spencer Dinwiddie, G, junior
딘위디는 많은 스카우틀이 퍼스트 라운더 후보로 언급한 적도 있지만 1 월에 닥친 ACL 부상으로 시즌 동안 사이드라인에 빠지게 됐다. 딘위디가 없는 상태에서는 스캇이 팀의 베스트 NBA 유망주다. 스킬을 갖춘 빅맨으로 페인트 안에서 또는 바스켓을 바라보고 득점할 수 있다. 하지만 엘리트 툴이 없다는 점으로 인해 드래프트 주가가 세컨드 라운드에 고착돼 있다.

10. Stanford Cardinal
Potential second-rounder: Dwight Powell, F, senior
파웰은 다재다능한 게임으로 몇년에 걸쳐 스카우트들의 흥미를 돋웠다. 플로어 어디에서건 득점할 수 있고 이번 시즌 어시스트에서 스탠포드 선두다. 하지만 중대한 역할을 꾸준하게 맡을 수 없다는 점이 스카우트들을 고민하게 만든다. 재능은 상당하지만 다 풀어내는 경우가 기대만큼 그리 많지 않다. 빅 토너먼트라면 퍼스트 라운드 후반 픽 논의에 다시 불러들일 수 있을 것이다.
11. Dayton Flyers
Potential second-rounder: Jordan Sibert, SG, junior
사이버트는 길고도 운동 능력 있는 윙으로서 3점슛을 내리 꽂을 때면 막기가 매우 힘들다. 이번 시즌 3점슛팅을 극적으로 향상시켰고, 훨씬 더 가용폭이 넓은 무기가 됐다. 자기 학년에 비해 나이가 많아서 드래프트 주가에 한계가 있겠지만 그럼에도 흥미있는 구석이 있다. 피에어는 NBA 바디와 운동 능력을 갖고 있다. 여기에 점프 샷의 일관성을 추가했고, 이를 통해 앞으로 NBA 팀들에게 흥미로운 옵션이 될 것이다.

For the third year in a row, the South Region in the NCAA tournament has an unusually high number of NBA draft prospects in comparison to the other regions. By our count, it has three potential lottery picks and another nine potential first-rounders. In other words, it's loaded. Insider's NBA draft team has talked to multiple NBA scouts and GMs over the course of the season and, based on their feedback and information, here's a look at the top NBA prospects for each of the teams in the South Region, listed by potential lottery picks, first-rounders, second-rounders and "wait until next year" players. (Teams listed by seed.)
1. Florida GatorsPotential first-rounders: Chris Walker, F, freshman; Patric Young, C, senior Florida is the best team in the nation because of its senior leadership -- not because it is loaded with elite NBA prospects. However, NBA scouts believe that many of Florida's players could end up in the NBA. Walker is the most intriguing despite the fact that he plays a small role coming off the bench. His combination of length and athletic ability is tantalizing. Before the season, he was projected as a potential lottery pick by many scouts. He's leaning toward returning to the Gators next season, but if he decides to declare, he'll get a lot of interest outside the lottery from teams willing to gamble. Young was ranked as a potential lottery pick his freshman and sophomore years, but scouts got frustrated with a perceived lack of improvement. However, a number of GMs have recently suggested that his strong defensive play and NBA body will earn him a spot in the league for years to come. There's no one else to really get excited about here in the short term. Frazier will have a spot thanks to his terrific 3-point shooting. Wilbekin has a few fans among NBA scouts who love his toughness at the point. Prather is having a great season, but his lack of a great jumper is killing his pro value. Both Hill and Finney-Smith are potential first-rounders, but not until 2015 at the earliest.
2. Kansas JayhawksPotential lottery picks: Andrew Wiggins, G/F, freshman; Joel Embiid, C, freshman Kansas might have the two best players in the entire draft. That's a good place to start. Wiggins began the season No. 1 on our Big Board and stayed there for most of the year (he never moved lower than No. 2) until Embiid took the No. 1 spot in February. But with Wiggins thriving and Embiid suffering a disk fracture in his back, Wiggins has regained his spot atop the Big Board. Wiggins has exceptional athletic abilities that are truly unique for a player his size. While his offense can come and go, he's exceedingly smooth in everything he does. His game is really effortless. To top it off, he's already an elite on-ball defender, something that garners him even more cachet among NBA GMs who know they can put him on the floor right away and he won't be a liability. Embiid isn't expected to play in the first two games of the tournament as he rests his back. However, when he's on the floor, he's a true game-changer on both ends of the court. As long as there are no serious long-term issues with the back, he should be one of the top three picks in the draft. And if he gets healthy in the tournament, Embiid could give KU the push it needs to compete for an NCAA title. Selden was considered a potential lottery pick before the season, but he's often been a bit of an afterthought due to the play of Wiggins and Embiid. Still, NBA teams love Selden's toughness, NBA body, athleticism and ability to finish at the rim. If he decides to declare, he's still a likely first-round pick. If he stays, he could project as a lottery pick in 2015. Ellis is a major contributor for KU but lacks the elite athletic ability and size to be a first-round prospect. Black has an NBA body, though his lack of offense and rebounding means he's likely go undrafted. NBA teams love Traylor's toughness and see him as a potential rotation player down the road as he earns more time at KU.
3. Syracuse OrangePotential lottery pick: Tyler Ennis, PG, freshman Ennis has been one of the steadiest point guards in the country this season. He doesn't really wow you with speed or athleticism, nor is he an explosive scorer. But he usually makes the right decisions and has a great balance between scoring and distributing the basketball. NBA teams like steady players, and few are as steady as Ennis. Grant is an amazing athlete still looking for a go-to offensive move, but the talent is so tantalizing he could end up getting picked in the late lottery regardless. Fair is the best scorer on the team right now, but other than some elite hops, much of his game doesn't really translate to the next level. He's a bubble second-rounder. Both Christmas and Coleman have size, which intrigues NBA teams, but their production has been too limited to really call them second-rounders.
4. UCLA BruinsPotential first-rounders: Zach LaVine, G, freshman; Kyle Anderson, F, sophomore LaVine plays limited minutes coming off the bench, but his combination of explosive athleticism and unlimited range on his jumper have scouts drooling. His game is wild, and he needs to add strength -- meaning he'd be much better off returning for his sophomore year (especially if Adams declares) -- but some team would take him in the late lottery to mid-first round just based on upside. Anderson is the most unique prospect in the draft. He's a point-power forward who has worked on virtually every area of his game this season. Some teams have him in the late lottery, others in the second round, but on the right team in the right role, he could have a long NBA career. Adams is a terrific scorer but his streaky jumper and lack of elite athleticism has him planted firmly on the first-round bubble.
5. Virginia Commonwealth RamsPotential second-rounders: JuVonte Reddic, PF, senior; Treveon Graham, SG, junior Reddic is a great athlete and finisher around the rim. Graham is VCU's best perimeter scorer. However, neither player progressed the way scouts had hoped they would this season and now both would likely go in the second round (or undrafted). If VCU can get hot again, like it did in the 2012 tournament, both players could really improve their draft positions.
6. Ohio State BuckeyesPotential first-rounder: LaQuinton Ross, F, junior Ross had his coming-out party last year in the NCAA tournament. Before this season, many scouts predicted a breakout campaign that could lead to him landing in the lottery. Ross struggled to live up to the hype early in the season, but lately he's been playing terrific basketball. Another big tournament could cement his status in the first round. Craft's dogged toughness on the defensive end may earn him a spot in the second round.
7. New Mexico LobosPotential second-rounders: Kendall Williams, PG, senior; Alex Kirk, C, junior;Cameron Bairstow, PF, senior Williams got some looks from NBA teams last year as a potential first-rounder. He's got size for his position, is a good athlete, and when his jump shot is falling, he can be very dangerous. Kirk has NBA size going for him, though his lack of any real athletic ability hurts his cause. Bairstow has been New Mexico's best player this season. He's an old-school power forward who plays with craftiness in the paint, but slow feet and a lack of explosiveness wreak havoc on his draft stock.
8. Colorado BuffaloesPotential first-rounder: Spencer Dinwiddie, G, junior Dinwiddie was mentioned as a potential first-rounder by many scouts before an ACL injury in January sidelined him for the season. Without Dinwiddie, Scott is the team's best NBA prospect. He's a skilled big man who can score in the paint or face the basket. However, his lack of an elite tool keeps his draft stock mired in the second round.
9. Pittsburgh PanthersPotential second-rounders: Lamar Patterson, F, senior; Talib Zanna, PF, senior Patterson wasn't really on the NBA radar screen until this season, when he started to take off for Pitt. He can shoot, pass (he leads the team in assists) and rebound (he ranks second on the team) -- essentially everything. His NBA draft ceiling is low, but he's the type of versatile player who veteran teams sometimes love to grab in the late-first or early-second round. Zanna is efficient and can be a beast down low. His age works against him as an NBA prospect, but some of the advanced stat guys think he could be a rotation player in the pros.
10. Stanford CardinalPotential second-rounder: Dwight Powell, F, senior Powell has intrigued scouts for years with his versatile game. He can score from anywhere on the floor and leads Stanford in assists this season. But his inability to consistently take over has bothered scouts. There is a ton of talent here, but he doesn't tap all of it as often as they would like. A big tournament could put him back in the discussion as a late-first-round pick.
11. Dayton FlyersPotential second-rounder: Jordan Sibert, SG, junior Sibert is a long, athletic wing who can be very difficult to guard when he's knocking down 3s. He's dramatically improved his 3-point shooting this season, which has made him a much more versatile weapon. He's old for his class, which means his draft ceiling is limited, but he's intriguing nonetheless. Pierre has an NBA body and athleticism. He's also added consistency to his jump shot, which makes him an intriguing option down the road for NBA teams.

14. Western Michigan BroncosPotential second-rounder: Shayne Whittington, F, senior At 6-foot-11, Whittington can really stretch the floor while still being effective on the glass (averaging more than nine rebounds a game). NBA teams are always looking for players who can stretch the floor. While he's not a great 3-point shooter, his face-the-basket game is one of the better ones in the nation.

작성자멜롱이 작성시간 14.03.19 카일 앤더슨, 정말 유니크하고 큰 득점 능력 없이도 다재다능함으로 경기를 지배하던데 아무래도 운동신경과 수비가 걸리나보죠? 개인적으로 "포텐셜 만땅"이라는 운동신경 덩어리들을 별로 안 좋아해서... (리스크가 너무 크더군요) 저렇게 센스랑 리더십으로 플레이하는 선수가 NBA에서도 팀에 해는 거의 안 되고 잘 되면 바툼, 이궈달라, 혹은 예전 오돔이나 터코글루같은 만능 선수가 될 수 있을 것 같은데...물론 위 선수들은 운동신경도 좋죠. 앤더슨은 그래도 고등학교 때 스카우팅 랭킹도 탑 3고 대학 때도 PAC-12 거의 최고의 활약을 보였는데 NBA 오면 일단 포지션부터 문제겠군요, 공 잡고 리딩할 때 가장 효율적인 선수니까요.
