Brittney Griner was reportedly detained in Russia sometime last month. Reports are that Griner was arrested at the Moscow airport after a search of her luggage turned up cannabis vape cartridges.
Russian authorities have not specified that Griner was arrested, nor the date of the arrest, but did say it was a USA women's basketball player. Griner was in Russia to play for UMMC Ekaterinburg. During the WNBA offseason, several US-born players play overseas.
Griner's agent, Lindsay Kagawa Colas, did not dispute Griner had been detained in a statement.
“We are aware of the situation with Brittney Griner in Russia and are in close contact with her, her legal representation in Russia, her family, her teams, and the WNBA and NBA,” Kagawa Colas said Saturday. “As this is an ongoing legal matter, we are not able to comment further on the specifics of her case but can confirm that as we work to get her home, her mental and physical health remain our primary concern.”

Washington big man Kristaps Porzingis looks set to make his Wizards debut on Sunday. Porzingis was upgraded to probable for Sunday's game against the Indiana Pacers.
The 7'3'' forward/center has been out with a knee injury since being traded to Washington from the Dallas Mavericks at the trade deadline. The Wizards traded Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans in the deal to acquire Porzingis.
Porzingis has struggled to stay healthy the past two seasons. He appeared in only 43 games in 2020-21 and this season had played in just 34 games for Dallas before being traded. Washington hopes that Porzingis can help a push for the Play-In Tournament. The Wizards are currently two games behind the Charlotte Hornets with 20 games to play.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson is taking the next step in his rehab from a fractured foot. Williamson is returning to New Orleans from Portland to continue his rehab.
In addition, Williamson has been cleared to progress in basketball activities. At this point, there is still no timetable for the star forward to return to playing in games.
Williamson has missed the entire season, after the Pelicans revealed in late-September that he fractured his foot over the summer. There have been a few updates since then, but none have included a return-to-play timeline.

Brook Lopez hasn't played in a game since opening night for the Milwaukee Bucks. After having successful back surgery in December, Lopez is nearing a return for Milwaukee.
Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said Lopez will ramp up his contact work, including 5-on-5 work. Budenholzer called it "another good positive step" for Lopez.
It's also possible that Lopez will do a rehab stint of sorts with the Wisconsin Herd of the G League. While it's unlikely Lopez will play in G League games, he may practice with Herd. It's rare for NBA teams to do a lot of full scrimmages this late in the season, so going to the Herd would let Lopez get in the work he needs.

The Los Angeles Lakers are disappointed in their season, but aren't placing all of the blame on head coach Frank Vogel. The Lakers believe Vogel would have the team in a better place if wasn't for injuries to key players.
With Anthony Davis having missed nearly half the season, and Kendrick Nunn missing the entire season, Los Angeles feels as though Vogel shouldn't be fired. There is also belief within the Lakers organization that they can make a playoff run, should Davis get healthy late in the season.
It was also acknowledged that if the team's recent string of poor play continues, a coaching change may still come. Los Angeles has looked listless and has lacked effort at times, including in two blowout losses this week.

The Boston Celtics are set to sign Malik Fitts and Kelan Martin to second 10-day contracts. Their original deals expired on Saturday.
Fitts and Martin were signed towards the end of the All-Star break, when Boston had to fulfill the minimum roster requirement of 14 players. The Celtics had opened up five roster spots following their trade deadline maneuvering.
Fitts and Martin got into one game on their initial 10-day contracts. If Boston wants to keep either player following this second 10-day deal, they'd have to sign them for the remainder of the season. The Celtics recently signed Nik Stauskas to a two-year deal, and also added Sam Hauser and Luke Kornet following the trade deadline.
