Ben Simmons has been diagnosed with a herniated disk in his back.
The Brooklyn Nets remain optimistic that Nash will play at some point this season, but time is quickly running out.
Simmons had an epidural last week to alleviate some pressure in his back.
"He's had this a couple years ago, so he's had [herniated disks] throughout his career at some points," Steve Nash said. "And I guess there was a flare-up. I'm not sure when they recognized it was beyond a back flare-up and a herniated disc or what not, but somewhere along the line there, that was the reason for the epidural."
Nash said last week that Simmons had an MRI on his back so that the organization could figure out what was causing the discomfort.
"I've had the same issues," Nash said. "But they're all really unique and different, so it's really hard for me to kind of share my experiences with it because my back was totally different. You just never know. You never know how it responds. You feel great and turn a corner and the next week or so or it could be a longer-term thing, so we just have to be patient and see how he goes."

The Charlotte Hornets have agreed to sign Isaiah Thomas to a contract for the remainder of the season.
Thomas was previously on 10-days this season with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.
In six games with the Hornets, Thomas is averaging 9.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 13.5 minutes.

The Miami Heat are viewed as a legitimate suitor for Bradley Beal should he seek an exit from the Washington Wizards this offseason, multiple sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Miami would need to complete a sign-and-trade in order to acquire Beal from the Wizards. The Philadelphia 76ers also did their due diligence on a potential trade for Beal.
Across the NBA, however, there is an expectation that Beal will ultimately decide to re-sign with the Wizards. Every year, Beal and his representatives evaluate the landscape with the Wizards and options elsewhere while so far always remaining with the franchise that drafted him in 2012.
Beal is eligible for a five-year, $245.6 million deal that the Wizards are committed to making.

Quin Snyder has been discussed within league circles as a potential target for both the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers.
Snyder has ties to both franchises in the past.
Snyder remains under contract with the Utah Jazz next season, but the franchise is in a period of flux and could make major changes if they have a disappointing playoffs.
Snyder has been head coach of the Jazz since the 14-15 season.
Michael Porter Jr. Targeting Return Date Before Playoffs

Michael Porter Jr. is considered more likely to return this season than Jamal Murray, multiple sources told Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
Porter has endured back surgery before and is more comfortable with the recovery process related to surgery. Porter is also possibly more conditioned to accept a bench role as he returns.
Porter is targeting a return to play before the playoffs.
Murray is approximately one year removed from a torn ACL.
Zion Williamson Not Expected To Return This Season

Zion Williamson is not expected to return to play this season, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic. Williamson, however, is making progress toward on-court work. Williamson has been spotted doing stationary shooting and is able to bear weight on his surgically repaired foot.
The New Orleans Pelicans have 11 regular season games remaining, which would not likely leave enough time for him to ramp-up from one-on-zero to five-on-five scrimmaging.
Williamson returned to New Orleans two weeks ago after rehabbing his fractured foot injury in Portland.
Williamson has attended home games and has appeared to be in positive spirits.
Williamson is eligible for a contract extension this offseason.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry believes he'll be back by Game 1 of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Curry is currently out with a sprained left foot. He was injured in a game against the Boston Celtics last week.
When asked about his recovery and return, Curry said "I'm an optimist."
Curry is currently wearing a walking boot and has a noticeable limp. Still, he said he's improving and feeling better each day.

Damian Lillard will miss the remainder of the 21-22 season following his January abdominal surgery.
Sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic that Lillard has looked strong in workout and is making tremendous progress.
The Portland Trail Blazers decided it was best for Lillard's rehab process to sit the reminder of the season as they play their younger players.
Lillard's last game was on Dec. 31st against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray has been working towards returning from a torn ACL, but he's not there yet. In fact, it may still be some time before Murray plays again.
Prior to Sunday's game against the Boston Celtics, Nuggets coach Michael Malone said Murray is "not close" to playing. Malone said it's possible that Murray could do another stint of practices with the Grand Rapids Gold of the G League. The point guard recently joined Denver's affiliate for a block of practices.
Murray has not played this season after tearing his left ACL in mid-April of last year. There was hope that Murray could return by the end of this regular season, but with less than three weeks to go, that return seems in doubt.

Chris Paul is likely to return before his original projection of April 3rd, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic.
Paul was expected to miss six to eight weeks with a right thumb fracture when the injury was announced on Feb. 20.
Paul could now return as early as Wednesday at the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Paul has ramped up his activity of late and his conditioning is the main focus in why he's trying to return earlier.
The Phoenix Suns have a 10-4 record without Paul and have nearly clinched homeport advantage throughout the playoffs.
