Ben Simmons has filed a grievance against the Philadelphia 76ers in an attempt to recoup lost salary from fines this season. Simmons was fined nearly $20 million by the Sixers throughout his time with the team from October through the trade deadline in mid-February.
Philadelphia traded Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets at the trade deadline, but that came after the guard missed the entire season with the 76ers. Simmons initially refused to report to the Sixers in the early part of the season. He eventually did report, but was sent home after refusing to work up to Philadelphia's desired level.
Simmons and his camp have cited both a long-term back injury, which has held him since arriving to the Nets, and mental health issues were what kept him from fully joining the Sixers. Philadelphia says Simmons refused to take part in treatment plans and to work with the team to return to playing.
The grievance will now head to arbitration. The NBPA is supporting Simmons in his attempt to reclaim his lost salary.

Brooklyn Nets guard Goran Dragic has entered the health and safety protocols. According to Nets head coach, Dragic has COVID-19 symptoms and "doesn't feel well".
In 16 games with the Nets, Dragic has started six times. He's averaged 7.3 points and 4.8 assists in 25.5 minutes per game.
While Dragic is out, Brooklyn will lean on Kyrie Irving, Patty Mills and Seth Curry to play heavier minutes. Rookie guard Cam Thomas may also rejoin the rotation during Dragic's absence.

The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the New Orleans Pelicans at home on Friday night in what was a must-win game. Afterwards, LeBron James didn't mince words about the Lakers performance.
"The big picture is that it pretty much was a must-win for us, and we didn't get the job done," said James. "We had great opportunities throughout the night, and we didn't make enough plays down the stretch. So that's the big picture."
Los Angeles dropped to 11th in the Western Conference with the loss. They now trail the Pelicans by three games. The Lakers also trail the San Antonio Spurs by a full game for 10th, which is the final spot in the Play-In Tournament. In addition, San Antonio holds the tiebreaker over LA, meaning the Lakers essentially trail by two games.

Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward has been upgraded to probable to make a return to the lineup on Saturday. The Hornets play the Philadelphia 76ers in a game that is important to both teams for positioning in the playoffs and Play-In Tournament.
Hayward has missed Charlotte's last 22 games with a severely sprained right ankle. Overall, he's missed 29 games this season.
The Hornets have been one of the hotter teams in the NBA in recent weeks. They've won 8-of-10 games to pull into a tie with the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets for the 8-10 seeds in the Play-In Tournament.

The New York Knicks have been eliminated from postseason contention and will take advantage to rest some banged up players down the stretch. With Julius Randle hurting, it looks like the Knicks will shut him down for the rest of the season.
Randle has been battling a sore quad for a couple of weeks now. With New York having nothing to play for, Tom Thibodeau said Randle is "most likely out of the rest of the way".
After an All-Star season last year, Randle struggled to find the same momentum this campaign. He dropped to just 41% shooting overall and 31% from behind the arc, after hitting 46% and 41% last season. Randle's counting stats all fell off this season, as well.

Ohio State freshman guard Malaki Branham is entering the 2022 NBA Draft as an Early Entry Candidate. Branham will maintain his college eligibility and ability to return to Ohio State.
Branham was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. He averaged 13.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the Buckeyes. He shot 49.7% from the field, including 41.1% from behind the arc.
The six-foot-five guard is ranked 16th on ESPN's Top 100 prospects list.
