Reports are circulating that Ben Simmons may make his Brooklyn Nets debut sometime in the first round of the playoffs vs the Boston Celtics. Nets star Kevin Durant isn't putting a lot of stock in those reports.
“Nah, I’m not expecting him to play,” Durant said. “I’m not putting any pressure on Ben to come out there and hoop. I’m not expecting him to do anything but get his body right and get healthy as fast as he can. In my mind, I’m preparing as if we’re playing with the team we have.”
Brooklyn coach Steve Nash agreed with Durant's assessment, despite reports Simmons plans to play sometime between Games 4 and 6 of the series.
“There’s a chance Ben comes back, there’s a chance Ben doesn’t come back,” Nash said. “We don’t have time to lose focus on the group that’s playing.”

The chance of Ben Simmons actually being cleared to play for the Brooklyn Nets in his first round series against the Boston Celtics. Simmons is trying to return from a back injury after not playing since Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals last June.
"I am told Ben Simmons is targeting Games 4, 5 or 6 for making his Brooklyn Nets debut," said Brian Windhorst on Thursday morning on ESPN. "I've got to say that I was taken aback by being told that information. My response was 'Is he even playing five-on-five yet?'
"The answer to that is 'no', but the hope is by the end of the week he can ramp up to that. There is still some time. We're still talking about over seven days. It's a big ask, but I have to say that really for seven or eight weeks I've heard nothing but pessimism on the Ben Simmons' front. But that has switched dramatically over the past few days. Right now, I have to report it is possible we'll see Ben Simmons in this series against the Celtics."
The Nets traded for Simmons in February and would likely utilize him in a defensive role against Boston's star wings in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Luka Doncic injured his calf during the final day of the regular season, which is leading to a doubt in his status for the Dallas Mavericks' first round series against the Utah Jazz.
"There is a lot of skepticism right now in Dallas that Luka Doncic will be ready for Game 1 on Saturday," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "I'm told this is more than just a mild calf strain."
The Mavericks are concerned that Doncic could make the injury worse by playing and that he could even be held out of Monday's Game 2.
Wojnarowski added that Doncic would undoubtedly be ruled out with the injury if this were the regular season.

James Harden claims he is feeling no pressure to perform well in the playoffs with the Philadelphia 76ers.
"Pressure, no. I feel good," Harden said after Thursday's practice at the team's facility here with a smile. "I'm ready to hoop. There's nothing to it."
Joel Embiid said his co-star just needs to be himself, and let everything else take care of itself.
"I tell him to be himself. He's been doing a great job of being the playmaker but we need him to be aggressive and really score the ball, especially against Toronto," Embiid said. "With the way they guard me, we're going to need everybody. We're going to need Tyrese to be aggressive with all the attention that's going to be on me and James, Tyrese, Tobias, all the other guys, they have to make plays. He just has to be himself, and not worry about people talking about pressure. Whatever happened in the past, you look back at what he's accomplished and what he's done, he had to play against a dynasty. It would have been hard for anybody to beat those Golden State teams, so bad timing. But I'm sure it's going to be fine."
Harden also has insisted he is entering the playoffs healthy.
"It's good," Harden said. "I've actually been doing some sprints and some hamstring work this week, so it's a really good week to prepare myself for this first round."

There is continued optimism that Robert Williams will be cleared to return for the latter part of the Boston Celtics' first round series against the Brooklyn Nets. Williams suffered a meniscus injury in March, which led to a minor procedure rather than a full repair.
"The possibility, I'm told, is very real that Robert Williams can return for this first round series against the Nets," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "Game 6 would fall on one month from his left knee meniscus surgery back on March 30th. The thought from the very beginning, because of the nature of this meniscus injury, is that he could be back even within that one month timetable. He has continued to process. He has met all his benchmarks so far. There's a real possibility for Boston [for Williams to return]."
Williams has been a key part of Boston's NBA leading defense this season.

Miles Bridges declined a four-year, $60 million contract extension offer from the Charlotte Hornets last offseason, which appears to have been an excellent business decision.
Bridges is expected to command a maximum salary this offseason that could reach $173 million over five years.
League personnel believe the Hornets intend to match any offer sheet Bridges may sign as a restricted free agent.
Because Charlotte is in that situation, teams could potentially be dissuaded from making an earnest attempt at signing Bridges, or it could encourage a rival to force the franchise to pay his full max.
Bridges averaged 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists this past season.
