The Orlando Magic have won the 2022 NBA Draft Lottery for the fourth time in franchise history.
Some combination of Jabari Smith, Chet Holmgren and Paolo Banchero are expected to be the top-3 selections in the draft. ESPN's Jonathan Givony projects Smith going No. 1 to the Magic, followed by Holmgren to the Thunder, Banchero to the Rockets, Shaedon Sharpe to the Kings, and Keegan Murray to the Pistons.

Rafael Stone: Rockets Open To Moving Third Overall Pick

The Houston Rockets were unlucky in the NBA Draft Lottery, as they were jumped by the Orlando Magic and the Oklahoma City Thunder. That dropped the Rockets from a pre-lottery spot of first overall to third overall.
For Houston general manager Rafael Stone, he feels the team is still in position to get a really good player. However, he added the Rockets will listen to trade offers for the third pick.
"If it's the case that (other teams) are interested in doing something, we're always available to listen," Stone said. "If there’s something that makes sense for both teams it’ll get done.”
Stone acknowledged that there is a sense of relief after the lottery, because now teams know where they'll be picking. Stone feels good about his potential options with the third pick.
“We’re really excited," Stone said. "I definitely think by picking third or trading, we’re going to be a materially more talented team than we were last year.”
Pacers Will Keep All Options Open With Draft, Free Agency

The Indiana Pacers will have their highest pick in the NBA Draft in 33 years, as they'll select sixth overall at the 2022 NBA Draft. Unless, of course, they trade the pick.
Pacers President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard said his team will keep all of their options open as they head into this offseason.
"We've got cap space. We've got a good pick. We liked the fifth pick better, but we like the sixth pick," Pritchard said. "The gamut of what we can do is wide and wider than I've ever seen ever in my time in this league, and I like that because now we get to get on the board and look at every scenario. There won't be one. There won't be two. There might 50 things we'll look (at) up on the board, and that's when you can be aggressive."
Indiana projects to have over $25 million in cap space this summer. They're also rumored to be exploring the trade markets for veterans Malcolm Brogdon and Myles Turner.

Al Horford has been ruled out for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals as he has entered COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Horford is also widely expected to miss at least Game 2.
Marcus Smart will also miss the game with a foot sprain.

The NBA has resumed discussions on an In-Season Tournament that could begin as soon as the 23-24 season, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Play-In Tournament has established itself as a permanent part of the league's playoff formula, which has encouraged the introduction of other new elements.
Adam Silver has pushed for an In-Season Tournament for several years though it has been previously met with resistance. The NBA is attempting to find ways to enrich its regular season without eliminating games and potential revenue.
Hornets Interview Terry Stotts For Head Coaching Job

The Charlotte Hornets will interview Terry Stotts for their head coaching vacancy. Stotts has been out of coaching since the Portland Trail Blazers parted ways with him after the 20-21 season.
Stotts led the Blazers to the playoffs in every season with the team after his first one when Damian Lillard was a rookie.
The Hornets are also considering Mike D'Antoni, Darvin Ham, Frank Vogel and others.
Charlotte fired James Borrego this offseason.
Deandre Ayton 'Going To Get A Max Contract Somewhere'

Deandre Ayton will be a restricted free agent this offseason after the Phoenix Suns were unable to sign him to an extension.
"Going into this season, Deandre Ayton did not feel valued by this Phoenix organization," said Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday. "They were not able to come to an agreement on a rookie extension. He saw many of the top players of his class get extensions. He wanted a max deal. He would not move off that.
"So now he moves toward restricted free agency this summer where now he'll have some more options. But ultimately Phoenix can still match an offer out there and keep him if he signs an offer sheet with another team."
Teams with cap space could pursue Ayton, but the Suns could also participate in a sign-and-trade. The future of Ayton with the Suns was already tenuous, but his confrontation with Monty Williams during Game 7 casts further doubt on the situation.
"You're going to look at the teams with cap space. Let's say for example Oklahoma City, a San Antonio, Portland. Teams that can create enough cap space to go out and sign him. But also the discussions of a sign-and-trade...
"If Phoenix decides they want to get assets back for Deandre Ayton. They don't want to match an offer sheet and either decide to pay him that max, or allow him to leave for nothing, which I think is what they won't do. There will be a lot of conversations around the league.
"Deandre Ayton is going to get a max contract in the marketplace somewhere. Phoenix really has to look at the allocation financially of how they want to distribute salaries.
"The relationship with Monty Williams had been one of the real benefits. I think their ability to work together and build a relationship. It will be interesting how that season ended impacts this. It will really be one of the stories of this offseason because there are a lot of teams figuring out how to acquire [Ayton]."
Darvin Ham Emerges As Serious Candidate For Hornets

Darvin Ham will interview for the Charlotte Hornets' head coaching vacancy for the second time as he has emerged as a serious candidate.
Ham has been an assistant coach in the NBA since 2011, beginning with the Los Angeles Lakers under Phil Jackson before joining Mike Budenholzer with the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks.
Ham also played in the NBA for nearly a decade, including for the 2004 champion Detroit Pistons.
The Lakers are also considering Ham for their head coaching position.
