Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans are nearing agreement on a five-year max extension worth up to $231 million. The base max contract for Williamson will be $193 million with it elevating to $231 million if he makes an All-NBA team during the 22-23 season as the Designated Rookie.
"The deal is expected to include protections that both sides were sorting through overnight and will finalize, sources said," writes Shams Charania.
Since coming into the league in 2019, Williamson has been one of the NBA's most productive stars when healthy.
Williamson is represented by Austin Brown and Lisa Joseph-Metelus.

Kevin Durant appears to have the Phoenix Suns atop his wish list following his trade request from the Brooklyn Nets.
"Phoenix is the place he wants to go, I feel reasonably confident of that," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "I think Miami is second. What I'm not confident over is that Phoenix is going to be able to give Brooklyn what they want. And I'm also not confident in what Brooklyn is going to prioritize."
Tim Bontemps interjected that he expects Durant to end up with the Suns.
"If you look at these trade, there's a nexus point between what the player wants and the team wants," said Bontemps. "Kevin Durant would like to play for the Suns. We can all agree on that. The Phoenix Suns also have a lot of stuff the Brooklyn Nets would want. They're not going to get Devin Booker in this trade, but they've got Mikal Bridges, they've got Deandre Ayton they can put in a sign-and-trade, and they have Cam Johnson."
The Suns also control all of their own draft picks, which makes assembling a competitive trade offer for Durant easier.

Gary Payton II is set to sign a three-year, $28 million deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Payton averaged 7.1 points and 3.5 rebounds last season with the Warriors.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports adds that the contract includes a player option and extra incentives.

Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a five-year, $193 million designated rookie maximum extension. The deal could become worth $231 million if he makes an All-NBA team again next season.
Morant was the second overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft and was a Second Team All-NBA guard last season.
