LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers had a "productive" meeting about their future on Thursday, Rich Paul told Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
McMenamin adds that the two sides have yet to agree upon a new contract, with Paul saying that discussions will continue to move forward.
Thursday marked the first day that James was eligible to sign a two-year, $97.1 million extension with the Lakers.
James has until June 30 to sign an extension before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
James could also sign a one-year extension worth $47 million with a player option.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed forward/center Mike Muscala.
Last season with Oklahoma City, Muscala saw time in 43 games and averaged 8.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game, while shooting a career-high 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. In nine NBA seasons with Oklahoma City, Atlanta, Philadelphia and the Los Angeles Lakers, the Bucknell product has appeared in 432 career games (30 starts) and posted averages of 6.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game.

There is "a lot of pessimism" that a Kevin Durant trade gets completed sometime in the near future, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.
Begley adds that part of the pessimism involves trying to get a third or fourth team to help facilitate a deal that the Nets deem "suitable."
"There was not a lot of interest around the league as of last month about teams acting as that third and fourth team as a conduit to get something done," said Begley.
Rival executives are reportedly skeptical over the Nets desire to actually trade Durant due to their high asking price.
Zach Lowe of ESPN reported last week that the team was still holding out hope that Durant would retract his trade request.

Begley added that Irving was also "comfortable" with the Nets heading into the start of next season.
"After a lot of trade talk, there doesn't appear to be much there at the moment," said Begley.
Irving, who opted into the final year of his deal with the Nets, has been the frequent subject of trade rumors this offseason.

Ham publicly supported Westbrook in his introductory press conference as Lakers coach.
Westbrook, who recently hired Jeff Schwartz as his agent, has been linked with a move to the Pacers, Knicks, and Jazz.
