Lakers, GM Rob Pelinka Agree To Contract Extension Through 2026

The Los Angeles Lakers and general manager Rob Pelinka have reportedly agreed to a contract extension. The deal is expected to keep Pelinka running the Lakers front office through the 2025-26 season.
Pelinka has been the Lakers GM since 2017. For his first two seasons, with Los Angeles, Pelinka worked under Magic Johnson in the Lakers front office. He was part of the group that recruited LeBron James to LA in the summer of 2018.
In his first full season as the team's primary decision-maker, Pelinka put together the Lakers roster that won 52 games and the 2020 NBA Finals in the bubble at Walt Disney World.
Pelinka's first major transaction was completing a trade for Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. He also completed a big trade for Russell Westbrook prior to the 2021-22 season.
Since winning the championship in 2020, the Lakers have fallen off to 42 wins and a first-round exit in 2020-21 and 33 wins and missing the postseason in 2021-22.
Mavericks Weighing Signing Facundo Campazzo

The Dallas Mavericks are considering signing Facundo Campazzo. The point guard is an unrestricted free agent after the Denver Nuggets did not tender him a qualifying offer this past summer.
Despite Denver cutting him free, Campazzo has continually said he plans to play in the NBA next season. The veteran point guard does have standing offers from European clubs, should an NBA opportunity not materialize.
In two seasons with the Nuggets, Campazzo appeared in 130 regular season games, including 23 starts. Campazzo averaged 5.6 points, 3.5 assist and 1.1 steals in 20.1 minutes per game over the last two years.

Bradley Beal entered health and safety protocols on Sunday and will miss the Washington Wizards' preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday.
The Wizards open their regular season against the Pacers on October 19, giving Beal 10 days to clear protocol.

Kemba Walker sat courtside and took in the Charlotte Hornets and Boston Celtics preseason game on Friday. That wouldn't be notable, except for the fact that the Detroit Pistons were playing at the same time, and Walker currently remains on Detroit's roster.
Walker and the Pistons have agreed he'll be away from the team, as they work on a contract buyout. To date, that buyout hasn't come.
Detroit's buyout offer has been unacceptable to Walker thus far. The veteran guard said he's in no rush to accept less than he wants, but that he feels good about playing again.
“I’ve got something in the tank, for sure,” Walker said. “I feel great. I’m going to be honest. I’m going to have my opportunity. I’m not in any rush right now. I’m just grinding and trying to feel as good as I can. And right now, I feel great. I feel as good as I’ve felt in a long time. I’m just waiting for the opportunity.”
Rockets Sign Willie Cauley-Stein

The Houston Rockets have signed veteran center Willie Cauley-Stein. It's unclear if Houston plans to keep Cauley-Stein when they cut the roster down next week.
Cauley-Stein is a seven-year NBA veteran. He's played for the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 76ers in his career.
The Rockets roster is in transition. They recently competed an eight-player trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Rockets already waived Ty Jerome, and none of the three other players Houston acquired are expected to have a long-term future with the team.

The Philadelphia 76ers have waived wing Trevelin Queen. The Sixers roster now stands at 19 players.
Queen was signed by Philadelphia to a two-year deal this summer. He will be on the 76ers books as $330,000 in dead money for this season, as that was his guaranteed amount.
Queen has one year of NBA experience, which came last season with the Houston Rockets. Because he had more than $50,000 in guaranteed salary, Queen is ineligible to play for the Sixers G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, this season.

The Utah Jazz are set to waive guard Saben Lee. Lee was acquired, along with Kelly Olynyk, in a trade that sent Bojan Bogdanovic to the Detroit Pistons.
In 85 games with Detroit over two seasons, Lee averaged 5.6 points and 3.3 assists in 16.3 minutes per game. Utah will have $1.7 million in dead money on their cap sheet for this season, unless Lee is claimed off waivers by another team.
Nuggets Waive Adonis Arms, Grant Golden

The Denver Nuggets have waived Adonis Arms and Grant Golden. Both Arms and Golden were signed to non-guaranteed training camp deals.
Neither Arms nor Golden saw action in the Nuggets preseason contests. Both Arms and Golden are expected to play for Denver's G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold, this upcoming season.
