Joel Embiid has been named the 22-23 NBA Most Valuable Player. Embiid finished second each of the past two seasons behind Nikola Jokic.
Embiid beat out Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo to win the award.
Embiid received 73 out of 100 first place votes, compared to 15 for Jokic and 12 for Antetokounmpo. Embiid, Jokic and Antetokounmpo received all but one of the first, second and third place votes.
Jayson Tatum finished fourth while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished fifth.

Chris Paul will be reevaluated in one week after an MRI revealed the severity of a groin injury. Paul left Game 2 with the injury on Monday.
The Phoenix Suns are prepared to be without Paul for at least Games 3-5. The Suns are currently down 0-2 in their second round series against the Denver Nuggets.

The Memphis Grizzlies have informed Dillon Brooks they are not interested in re-signing him in free agency under any circumstances, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Brooks was informed of the Grizzlies' position during his exit meeting.
Brooks’ first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers was considered to be a breaking point. Brooks called LeBron James "old" and "tired" after Game 2, then punched him in the groin area in Game 3. Brooks also chose not to speak to the media after three of the losses in the series, resulting in a $25,000 fine by the NBA.
Brooks also struggled on offense during the series.
The Grizzlies made contract extension offers to Brooks early in the season, but those were rejected, sources tell Charania.
At the trade deadline, the Grizzlies pursued trades for both Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby.

Nikola Jokic has won back-to-back NBA MVPs, so he likely thinks Tuesday's MVP announcement isn't that big of a deal. However, Jokic is completely unmoved by the entire thing.
When asked about the MVP announcement, Jokic said he has "zero interest" and that "It is what it is."
Jokic was pressed about what he'd be doing when the award was announced and he said he hoped to be relaxing. "Hopefully it's gonna be a sunny day so I can be in the swimming pool."

Sunday’s Game 7 between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings averaged 9.84 million viewers on ABC, marking the largest first round playoff audience since Kings-Jazz Game 5 on NBC in 1999, and the largest first or second round audience since Raptors-Sixers Game 7 in 2001.
The win peaked with 11.93 million viewers and averaged more viewers than all but one game before last year's Finals.

Joel Embiid remains doubtful for Game 2 against the Boston Celtics due to a sprained knee, according to Doc Rivers.
"There's no change in his status. But he's working out today ... the fact that he is doing that is a step forward, for sure," said Rivers on Tuesday.
Embiid's status for Game 2 will not be affected by the Sixers' Game 1 win, according to Rivers.
"It's just health-based. If he can play, he plays. If he can't, he can't. And if it's 50-50, we would probably err on other side [and not have him play], because we've done that all year," said Rivers.
Rivers added that he will also monitor Embiid's conditioning when the center eventually returns.
"When he does come back -- if that's Game 2, Game 3, whenever he comes back -- he's going to be tired, and we're going to have to monitor that as well. That'll be a new thing to throw in."
