The San Antonio Spurs are the preferred trade destination of De'Aron Fox and they have a mutual interest in acquiring him. San Antonio, however, isn't the only team interested in trading for him as he Sacramento Kings evaluate their options ahead of the Feb. 6th trade deadline.
"The Kings have received dozens of phone calls and offers in the last 30 hours since I reported this," said Shams Charania on Wednesday evening. "But here's the most important thing to know, I'm told the San Antonio Spurs, according to league sources, are De'Aaron Fox's targeted, preferred destination. And San Antonio is among the interested teams in Fox.
"This is someone that has a massive market right now. He's jumped to the top of the trade landscape ahead of the February 6th NBA trade deadline. He's in the prime of his career. He's a max contract player. These types of deals don't happen overnight though. The Kings are going to have to balance potentially finding the best offer for him right now when he has a year-and-a-half left before his deal expires, or the inevitability of a trade in the offseason.
"And if you're an interested team, like the Spurs are, and De'Aaron Fox might have the same interest in you, here is your chance to potentially get a game changer."
Fox can become a free agent in 2026 and is not considered likely to sign an extension with the Kings.

The Golden State Warriors have interest in both Zach LaVine and Jimmy Butler ahead of the February 7th NBA trade deadline. LaVine seems to pique more interest with multiple players on the Warriors depending on the cost. LaVine is also viewed by some within the franchise as the safer option considering he is nearly six years younger, $6 million cheaper this season, and an easier cultural fit.
LaVine's contract extends longer and he's had health concerns, but he has had a bounce back 24-25 season and is an All-Star candidate. LaVine is averaging 24.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 34.1 minutes across 42 games.
The Warriors were previously all but out of the running for Butler, but the recent perceived drop in his price has intrigued key stakeholders. When Butler initially became available last month, there was zero push from any part of the organization to trade for Butler.
Golden State's front office is motivated to improve the roster and willing to include their 2025 first-round draft pick in deals that would lift the team out of lottery position. However, the organization has concerns about disrupting team chemistry if veterans Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, or Kevon Looney are included in any trade.
Jonathan Kuminga is considered essentially off the table for either Butler or LaVine.

The Sacramento Kings are evaluating trade offers for De'Aaron Fox ahead of the Feb. 6th trade deadline. Fox can become a free agent in 2026, which gives the franchise either this trade deadline or the 2025 offseason to execute a deal if they believe he will not sign a long-term extension.
"In a lot of ways, this is the Kings getting ahead of what's coming in the offseason," said Shams Charania on First Take. "He's going to be a free agent in 2026, so if he were to be traded at the trade deadline, this gives them more time on his contract to potentially get more value instead of waiting for the summer when every team in the league knows they have to move De'Aaron Fox.
"The Kings, so far in conversations with all those teams, they've said they want win-now players. They want draft capital as well. This is a massive domino. De'Aaron Fox is in the prime of his career. He's a max contract, no-brainer."
Fox is believed to have a specific trade destination in mind, but that has not been confirmed yet on the record. There has been rampant speculation that the San Antonio Spurs are that team, which Charania said sources have told him.
"Him and his representation, Kluch Sports CEO Rich Paul, they have a destination already in mind," said Charania. "I've asked Rich Paul to confirm what I've heard. He's been unwilling to me to confirm, but league sources tell me the San Antonio Spurs are De'Aaron Fox's preferred destination. The Kings will discuss deals with the Spurs. The Spurs have a level of interest. There's multiple other teams with interest in De'Aaron Fox as well. They're going to see if they can find a deal between now and that Feb. 6th NBA trade deadline and if they can recoup the utmost value for De'Aaron Fox. If he's a rental for any other team, there is question on what price you're willing to pay."

LaMelo Ball will miss at least another week as he continues to recover from a left ankle sprain sustained during Monday's game. Ball will be reevaluated in one week to determine if he can return to game action.
Ball has had an All-Star caliber season as he's averaging a career best 28.2 points to go with 5.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists this season.
Ball played in just 36 games in 22-23 and in 22 in 23-24 as he previously dealt with ankle injuries.

The Milwaukee Bucks have shown interest in Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine. The Bucks are reportedly looking for additional perimeter help. The Bulls have continued to make LaVine available, despite reports that LaVine would now prefer to remain in Chicago for the rest of this season.

In a deal that sends LaVine to Milwaukee, the Bucks would likely have to trade a combination of Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis and Pat Connaughton to match salary. Milwaukee is facing the complication of needing to finish a trade by getting under the second apron in order to aggregate player salaries in a deal. That means a multi-team trade could be the easiest path to bringing a high-salary star to the Bucks.

The Raptors are looking to add a "significant piece" alongside Scottie Barnes, according to reports. That's either at the trade deadline, or this coming offseason.
Toronto has been active, as they have several veteran players drawing interest around the league. Bruce Brown and Chris Boucher are on expiring contracts, while veterans Jakob Poeltl and Kelly Olynyk have been targets for center-needy teams.
The Raptors have continued to put a high price on Poeltl, who they view as a fit for their long-term rebuild. Brown, Boucher and Olynyk could all be had and their recent strong play is helping their trade value.
"All those guys could be on the move," said one league source. "The way they’ve played the last few weeks really helps."

Anthony Davis will be reevaluated in one week after undergoing an MRI that confirmed an abdominal muscle strain. Davis suffered the injury in Tuesday's loss by the Los Angeles Lakers to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Davis will return to Los Angeles immediately and miss their upcoming Grammy's road trip games at the Washington Wizards, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers.
