Jul 11, 2025 4:26 PM

Isaiah Jackson and the Indiana Pacers have agreed to a three-year, $21 million deal. Jackson, who was a restricted free agent, is coming off a torn Achilles suffered in early November.

Jackson has career averages of 7.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 14.9 minutes across four seasons with the Pacers.

Rob Pelinka, JJ Redick Detailed To Luka Doncic Lakers' Plans To Build Around Him In Key Meeting

Jul 11, 2025 1:24 PM

Four days after the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves in early May, Luka Doncic and his business manager Lara Beth Seager met for dinner with Rob Pelinka and JJ Redick. Sources tell ESPN that Pelinka and Redick explained not only their strategy in building the Lakers around Doncic and his skill set, but also how they plan to navigate the complexities of the NBA's new collective bargain agreement.

Pelinka made it a working dinner by discussing the second apron, the value of preserving cap space to acquire an age-appropriate co-star and even had a thick binder with him. Pelinka had previously brought that binder to meetings such as these with LeBron James. Now that the Lakers have acquired Doncic, they are building around their younger star instead of their older one.

Pelinka has frequently been in touch with Doncic and Seager since the Lakers acquired him in a stunning trade with the Dallas Mavericks.

"The Lakers leadership team has been incredibly welcoming and supportive of Luka since we arrived in L.A.," Seager told ESPN. "We've spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other over the last few months, and we've formed a strong working relationship. Championships are won when you work together. We all share that same goal."

As the Lakers build out their roster this offseason, the biggest single issue

The Lakers are open to any contract extension structure Doncic prefers this offseason. Doncic can sign a four-year, $229 million extension with the Lakers. Alternatively, he could opt for a shorter three-year, $165 million deal with a player option for 28-29, positioning himself for a potential five-year, $418 million contract in 2028 when he reaches 10 years of service.

Doncic might also play out his current contract through 25-26 before choosing between a five-year, $296 million deal with the Lakers, or a four-year, $219 million contract elsewhere. Doncic's current deal includes a player option worth $48.9 million for the 26-27 season.

LeBron James Responding To Lakers' Signals They're Moving On From Him After 2025-26

LeBron James understands the Los Angeles Lakers' decision to pivot to building around Luka Doncic given the fact one player is nearing retirement and the other is in the middle of his prime. However, nuance was sometimes lost during the transition as the organization made clear their priorities had changed.

The Lakers acquired Doncic in a February trade for Anthony Davis, signaling a shift away from their longtime superstar. Doncic had never asked to be traded to the Lakers and intended to sign a supermax extension with the Dallas Mavericks, while James had chosen the Lakers in 2018 when the team had missed the playoffs five consecutive seasons.

The Lakers did not offer James a contract extension beyond the 2025-26 season, marking the first time in his 23-year career a team hasn't prioritized keeping him long-term. James subsequently picked up his $52.6 million player option.

Since the Doncic trade on February 1, the Lakers have signaled this transition through several notable actions. They gave James minimal notice about the Davis-for-Doncic trade, though sources said he forgave this transgression due to his respect for Doncic.

The organization immediately attempted to pair Doncic with athletic young center Mark Williams. James and Davis had previously requested the franchise acquire a true center without success.

When the Buss family sold a majority stake to Mark Walter on June 18, Doncic received advance notice and posted congratulations on social media. James was not given the same courtesy and made no public acknowledgment.

James has responded to this treatment by dropping cryptic hints about his future, a pattern he's followed when frustrated with franchises.

"Nothing LeBron does is a coincidence," said one source who knows him well.

After the Lakers' playoff elimination, he referenced Davis' trade request when asked about physicality changes.

"No comment," James said. "I never say that because my guy AD said what he needed and he was gone the following week."

James has also posted social media content referencing his Cleveland Cavaliers tenure, including a July 4 repost of Lakers broadcaster Allie Clifton wearing a Cavaliers jersey.

"We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to eval‎uate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career," Rich Paul said in a statement to ESPN's Shams Charania.

"He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him."

The statement immediately sent the NBA world into speculation mode. Though James picked up his player option, the message read like a potential goodbye letter, suggesting a larger strategy was developing.

Multiple executives around the league began considering whether to pursue James, including the Golden State Warriors who attempted to trade for him in 2023-24. One Eastern Conference executive believed James wanted out of Los Angeles entirely.

The gigantic trade that landed Doncic in Los Angeles created new realities, including James becoming an expiring contract for the first time in his career. It represents the strongest sign yet that his Lakers tenure may be nearing its end. While it is not explicit, the Lakers have signaled that they intend to move on from James after the 2025-26 season when his contract expires.

Brook Lopez Pivoted To Clippers After LeBron James' Status With Lakers Became Uncertain

Jul 11, 2025 4:35 PM

Brook Lopez was strongly linked with the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the start of free agency, but he quickly came to agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-year, $18 million deal. Sources tell ESPN that the uncertainty surrounding the future of LeBron James with the Lakers contributed to his decision to sign with the Clippers.

Lopez will have a backup role with the Clippers behind Ivica Zubac, whereas he would have started for the Lakers had he signed with them. The Lakers instead pivoted to Deandre Ayton, who was unexpectedly bought out by the Portland Trail Blazers before the start of free agency.

Lopez averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.9 blocks in 31.8 minutes across 80 games for the Milwaukee Bucks. Lopez shot 37.3 percent on three-pointers last season. Lopez spent seven seasons with the Bucks and won a title in 2023.

The Lakers lost Lopez to the Bucks in 2018 after the arrival of James during that same offseason.

Kings Like Russell Westbrook But Dealing With Backcourt Logjam

Jul 11, 2025 9:19 AM

In a recent appearance on Sactown Sports in Sacramento, Sam Amick gave some insight into the Sacramento Kings thinking with their backcourt. One player that Kings GM Scott Perry is fond of is Russell Westbrook. However, Sacramento has a logjam in the backcourt and no signing seems imminent.

Westbrook is a free agent after declining a player option with the Denver Nuggets for the upcoming season. He's been linked to a handful of teams throughout the offseason, but no deal has come to fruition for the veteran point guard as of yet.

Sacramento added Dennis Schroder, as they prioritized signing a veteran point guard this offseason. Schroder is joining returnees Zach LaVine, Malik Monk, Keon Ellis and Devin Carter in the Kings backcourt.

Herb Jones, Pelicans Agree To Three-Year, $68M Extension

Jul 10, 2025 8:21 PM

Herb Jones and the New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to a three-year, $68 million contract extension. Jones is now under contract for the next five seasons at $97 million. Jones also holds a player option for the 2029-30 season.

Jones was an All-Defensive first team selection during the 2023-24 season. Jones also shot 42 percent from three during that season.

Jones was limited to 20 games last season due to shoulder and labrum injuries.

Jones was a second round pick in 2021 out of Alabama.

Jonathan Kuminga's Restricted Free Agency Could Continue To Freeze Warriors' Offseason Moves

Jul 11, 2025 12:15 AM

The Golden State Warriors have remained in a holding pattern this offseason as they wait for the Jonathan Kuminga situation to be resolved. Kuminga is a restricted free agent in a market that has been frozen. The Warriors are widely expected to eventually sign Al Horford this offseason, but it could wait until after the Kuminga situation is resolved.

"The Warriors have not made a move yet this offseason because a lot of what they're going to do, or trying to do, hinges on his restricted free agency," said ESPN's Shams Charania on SiriusXM. "Does he come back on a deal? Or are you signing and trading him? That's held up their movement over the offseason. You have a full NBA team whose actions have been held up so far because they're waiting on that.

"The three teams that have had a level of interest in Jonathan Kuminga this offseason: the Miami Heat, the Chicago Bulls, the Sacramento Kings. But having an interest and getting a deal done [are] two totally different things. Nothing quite yet there. We're still a ways away from that."

The Warriors are not prepared to allow Kuminga to leave without compensation in return while his fit within Steve Kerr's system has not come together at this point.
