四時(사시)는 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울이니 이 네 계절이 순서대로 기후가 바뀌면서
살아있는 만물이 스스로 노력한 공을 거두게 된다.
The "Four Seasons"(Sasi) refer to spring, summer, autumn, and winter,
As these four seasons change the climate in their due order,
all living things come to reap the rewards of their own endeavors.
네 계절은 믿음으로 어김없이 일을 하여
바다와 육지를 골고루 왕래함에 이를 알면 귀하게 된다.
The four seasone perform their work faithfully without fail,
moving evenly across the sea and the land; those who understand
this truth will become noble.
이롭게 되고 모르면 천하게 되고 해롭게 된다.
They will find benefit, whereas those who remain ignorant
of it will become base and suffer harm.

四時者는 春夏秋冬也라 (사시자는 춘하추동야라)
The Four Seasons are spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
春夏秋冬이 次序有氣候하여 (춘하추동이 차서유기후하여)
As spring, summer, autumn, and winter follow ane another in orderly succession,
the climate changes accordingly.
生物而收功하나니 信之爲業하여 (생물이수공하나니 신지위업하여)
Living things thrive and reap the fruits of their Iabor;
this unfolds reliably as a sacred duty.
海陸交易에 貴賤利害이니라. (해륙교역에 귀천이해이니라.)
Through the interplay and exchange between sea and land,
nobility and baseness, as well as benefit and harm, are determined.

땅의 이치는 곧 시간의 이치이다.
The principles of the earth are, in essence, the principles of time.
인간이 땅 위에 살면서 시간의 이치를 모르면 일을 이룰 수 없다.
Human beings living upon this earth cannot accmplish anything
if they remain ignorant of the laws of time.
땅 위의 필변하는 모든 것의 추의를 알고 있어야 불필요한 인적, 물적,
시간적 손실을 줄이면서 필요한 것을 효과적으로 얻어 낼 수가 있다.
One must perceive the transitions of all things on earth to effectively
acquire what is needed while minimizing unnecessary losses in human effort,
material resources, and time.
시간의 기본이 일년의 사계절로서 그변화를 귀하게 여길 때
在世理化(재세이화)가 가능하며 在世理化(재세이화)가 이루어질 때
弘益人間(홍익인간)도 이루어질 수 있다.
The bedrock of time is the four seasons of the year.
Only when we value and respect these changes can
Jaese-iwha(governing the world through reason and truth) be realized.
Furthermore, it is only when Jaese-iwha is achieved that
Hongik-ingan(widely benefiting all humanity) can cone to fruition.
이 이치를 아는 사람은 귀해지고 모르는 사람은 천해지고 해로워진다.
Those who grasp this principle will attain nobility,
whereas those who do not will fall into baseness and bring
harm upon themselves.
