➂제 3강령 愛(애)와 離卦(이괘)
The 3rd Principle : Love(愛 애, Ae) and the Li Trigram(離卦 이괘, I-gwae)
易經(역경)의 설괘전에 의하면 "想見乎離(상견호리)"라 하여
離卦(이괘)는 서로 마주 보는 것이라 했으며, 또한 "離麗也(이여야)"라 했다.
According to the Seolgwaejeon( Discussion of the Changes) in the
Yeokgyeong( I Ching / Book of Changes), it is side "想見乎離(상견호리, Sanggyeonhori),"
meaning that the Li Trigram (離卦,이괘) represents facing and looking at each other.
It is also stated, "離麗也(이여야, Iyeoya)."
麗(려)는 사전적 의미로 아름답다, 곱다, 빛나다, 짝, 둘, 함께가다, 꾀꼬리 등을 나타낸다.
The literal dictionary definition of the character 麗(려, Ryeo) includ meanings such as :
beautiful, fair, shining, a pair, two, going together, and a golden oriole.
이러한 離卦(이괘)에 대한 설괘전의 설명은
제 3강령 愛(애)라는 단 한마디의 말로서 설명될 수 있는 것이다.
This explanation of the Li Trigram in the Seolgwaejeon can be neatly summed
up in a single word : the 3rd Principle Love(愛 애, Ae).
또한 역시 설괘전에서 '燥萬物者 幕熯乎火(조만물자 막한호화)"라 했으니
"만물을 건조하게 하는 데는 불보다 더 마르게 하는 것이 없다"는 의미이다.
Furthermore, the Seolgwaejeon states,
"燥萬物者 幕熯乎火(조만물자 막한호화, Jomanmulja makhanhohwa)," which means :
"Among all things that dry the myriad of creation,
nothing dries things more than fire."
離卦(이괘)를 설명하는 이 말은 離卦(이괘) 불을 상징하는 것을 강조한 것이다.
This statement, which explains the Li Trigram,
emphasizes that the Li Trigram symbolizes fire.
과연 사랑(愛,애)은 눈(目,목)을 마주 보는 데서 시작되니
離卦(이괘)를 눈으로 상징하며 인간에게서 사랑이란 불과 같아서 태양과 같이
인간의 모든 것에 빛이 되어 주어 사랑이 없다면 암흑의 세계에 있는 것과 같은 것이다.
Indeed, since love(愛,애) begins with looking into each other′s eyes(目 목, Mok),
the Li Trigram is symbolized by the eyes.
Love is like fire and the sun―it becomes the light for everything in a person′s life,
such that without love, it would be like living in a world of total darkness.
그리고 사랑을 얻고 유지하는 일에는 피를 마르게하는 고통스러움을 반드시 수반한다.
Moreover, obtaining and maintaining love inevitably accompanies a painful,
gut-wrenching distress that "dries up one′s blood."
따라서 설괘전의 내용은 "인간의 마음을 건조하게 하는 데는
사랑보다 더 마르게 하는 것이 없다."라고 바꾸어 생각할 수 있다.
Therefore, the passage from Seolgwaejeon can be reintepreted as :
"Among all things that dry out the human heart, nothing dries it more than love."
그러나 잘못된 사랑은 마르는 것이 지나쳐서 모든 것을 태워버리는 위력도 있다.
However, a misguided or toxic love possesses a destructive power
so intense that it over-dries and burns everything to ashes.
제 3강령 愛(애)와 離卦(이괘)와의 연결은 이처럼 완전히 부합되고 있다.
In this manner, the connection between the 3rd Principle,
Love(愛,애), and the Li Trigram(離卦,이괘) is completely aligned and consistent.
