4th Level : Jang-shil(將失 장실, Imminent Loss)... On the verge of losing /
About to go astray... Case No 102.
將失(잘실)은 장차 이치를 잃는 것이다.
"Jang-shil" means being on the verge of losing reason or the true principle(Righteous path).
다리를 저는 사람이 뒤지는 것을 능하지 못하다 하는 것은 옳다.
It is correct to say that a limping person falls behind because they lack
the ability to keep up.
그러나 지나치게 빨리 가는 사람을 능하지 못하다 하는 것은 옳지 않다.
However, it is incorrect to say that a person who rushes excessively lacks ability.
한번 실수임에는 비록 같다 하더라도 다리를 저는 사람에게는 이치를 알려 주며,
지나치게 빨리 가는 사람에게는 손짓하여 불러야 한다.
Although both actions result in the same mistake(failing to walk correctly),
one must teach the true principle to the limping person,
while signaling and calling back the person who is rushing excessively.

將失者는 將欲失理也라 (장실자는 장욕실리야라자)
Those of "Jang-shil" are those who are about to lose the true principle.
蹇者不及을 謂不能則可요 (건자불급을 위불능즉가요)
It is acceptable to say it is due to a lack of ability when a lame(limping)
person cannot reach the mark.
走者過之를 謂不能則不可니 (주자과지를 위불능즉불가니)
It is unacceptable to say it is due to a lack of ability when a running person
overshoots the mark.
一失이 雖同이나 蹇者는 喩之하고 走者는 招之니라. (일실이 수동이나 건자는 유지하고 주자는 초지니라.)
Although doth constitute a single mistake, one must explain and guide the limping person,
and summon back the running person.
[Commentary & Interpretation, 풀이]
장차 이치를 잃는다면 지금 고쳐 주지 않으면 그 사람의 미래는 암울한 지경에 빠진다.
If someone is on the verge of losing the true principle and is not corrected right now,
their future will fall into a bleak and dismal state.
그러나 이치를 잃는 사람도 그 형태가 여러 가지이며 그것을 고쳐 주는 사랑의 방편도
그것에 맞추어 베풀어야 효과를 기대할 수 있다는 것이다.
However, even among those who lose their way, the patterns vary;
therefore, the benevolent methods used to correct them must be tailored
accordingly to expect any real effect.
