容(용)은 만물을 포용함이니 만리의 바다에서 만리의 물이 흘러 들어가고,
천 길의 산에는 천길의 흙이 쌓여 있으니,
"Yong"(tolerance) means embracing all things,
Just as s vast sea of ten thousand miles accepts streams flowing from ten thousand miles away,
and a mountain of a thousand fathoms accumulates a thousand fathoms of earth.
넘치는 것도 용납하는 것이 아니며 무너지는 것도 용납하는 것이 아니다.
it does not tolerate overflowing, nor does it tolerate collapsing.
(Note: This implies that true magnanimity holds everything in oerfect balance,
preventing excess or ruin).

容은 容物也라 (용은 용물야라)
Tolerance means embracing and containing all things.
萬里之海에 逝萬里之水하고 千仞之山에 載千仞之土니 (만리지해에 서만리지수하고 천인지산에 재천인지토니)
Into a sea of ten thousand miles flows the water of ten thousand miles;
upon a mountain of a thousand fathoms rests the earth of a thousand fathoms.
濫之者도 非容也며 崩之者도 非容也하느니라. (람지자도 비용야며 붕지자도 비용야하느니라.)
That which overflows is not true tolerance,
and that which collapses is not true tolerance.
[Commentary & Interpretation, 풀이]
남을 포용하고 용납한다는 것은 바다가 한 방울의 물을 거부하지않고,
산이 한줌의 흙을 거부하지 않듯 하는 것이다.
To embrace and tolerate others is to be like the ocean that never rejects a single drop of water,
or the mountain that never refuses a single handful of eaeth.
남을 용납할 줄 모르는 사람은 물이 넘치거나 산이 무너지는 것 같아 그 형체를 유지하기가 어렵게 된다.
A person who does not know how to tolerate others will eventually become like an overflowing
flood or a collapsing mountain,
making it impossible to maintain their own integrity and inner balance.
※ 바다와 산의 거대한 포용력을 본 받아야 한다는 가르침입니다.
진정한 도량(容,용)은 그 어ㄸ떤 작은 것도 가리지 않고 다 받아들이는 넓은 마음을 뜻합니다.
반대로 남을 포용하지 못하고 속이 좁은 사람은 마치 둑이 터져 물이 넘치거나 산사태가 나듯,
결국 자기 자신마저 지탱하지 못하고 무너지게 된다는 깊은 교훈을 주고 있습니다.
