7th : Goyeon(固然,고연)... One′s Inherent Nature/Original Self... No. 105
固然(고연)은 인간이 지켜야 할 이치를 떳떳이 함이다.
Goyeon(固然,고연) means to confidently and uprightly maintain the principles
that humans ought to observe.
인간의 도리가 하늘에 이치에 따른 운행에서 벗어나게 되면
天道(천도)를 따름에 있어 올바름을 잃는 것이다.
If human morality deviates from the movement that aligns with the principles of Heaven,
it means losing righteousness in following the 天道(천도, Cheondo/ Heavenly Way).
잣 벌레가 돌 위에 오르지 않고 산 닭이 공중에 오르려 않는 것은 이는 용납하는 시작이 된다.
Just as a small inchworm does not climb upon a stone,
and a wild pheasant does not attempt to soar high into the empty sky,
this[acting according to one′s natural place] becomesthe beginning of acceptance(용납).

固然者는 人理之常然也라 (고연자는 인리지상연야라)
That which is "Goyeon"(inherent/natural) is the constant and natural
state of human morality.
於天理에 失運하며 於天道에 失正이나 (어천리에 실운하며 어천도에 실정이나)
If one loses the proper alignment with the Principles of Heaven,
and loses righteousness in the Way of Heaven,
然이나 尺蠖은 不上石하고 (연이나 척확은 불상석하고)
Yet, just as the inahworm dies not climb upon the stone,
山鷄는 不戾空者니 容之始也니라. (산계는 불려공자니 용지시야니라.)
And the wild pheasant does not fly deep into the empty sky,
this is the very beginning of acceptance.
[Explanation / Commentary, 풀이]
겨울에 씨를 뿌리거나 여름에 온돌방에 불을 때고 쉬고 있는다면 그 사람이 이룰수 있는 일은 없다.
If someone sows seeds in the winter or heats an Ondol(underfloor heating)
room in the summer while idling away, there is nothing that person can achieve.
하늘의 운행을 따르지 않기 때문이다.
This is because they are not following the mavements and flow
of Heavwn(the natural order).
인간은 하늘의 커다란 도리에 받아 드려 그것에 맞추어 이치를 세워야 한다.
Humans must accept the great principles of Heaven and establish
their own principles in alignment with them.
이것이 天道(천도)를 받아 드리는 시작이다.
This is the beginning of accepting the 天v道(천도, Cheondo/ Way of Heaven).

● Goyeon(固然,고연) : 본래 그러함, 또는 자연스럽고 마땅한 천성을 뜻합니다.
여기서는 'Lnherent Nature' 또는'Natural/constant State'로 번역.
● 尺蠖(척확, Inchworm) & 山鷄(산계, Wlld Pheasant) :
자연물들이 자신의 분수와 본성을 거스르지 않고 살아가는 모습을 비유한 표현입니다.
●容(용, Acceptance) : 앞선 문서에서 언급된 '사랑의 두번째 범위인 용납'과 이아지는 개념으로,
만물이 자신의 본연의 자리를 지키고 받아들이는 태도를 의미합니다.
● Movements/ flow of Heaven(하늘의 운행) : 여기서는 촌체의 움직임뿐만 아니라 철학적인
'자연의 순리'나 '계절의 변화' 를 의미하므로 'the movements and flow of Heaven' 또는
'the natural order'로 해석할 수 있습니다.
● Ondol room(온돌방) : 한국 고유의 난방 방식이므로 고유명사인 'Ondol room'으로 표기하되,
의미를 명확히 하기 위래 'underfloor heating'의 개념을 담았습니다.
겨울에 씨를 뿌리거나 여름에 난방을 하는 것은 시기(철)에 맞지않는 어리석은 행동을 비유합니다.
● 天道(천도) : 동양 철학에서 우주의 절대적인 법칙이나 인간이 마땅히 따라야 할 길을 뜻하며,
'the Way of Heaven' 으로 번역됩니다.
