The 3rd Principle : Ae(愛,애)... Love... The 96th Deed
제 4범 育(육)......가르쳐 기름......第121事
Category 4 : Yuk(育,육)... Teaching and Nurturing... 121Affair.
育(육)은 敎化(교화)로서 사람을 기르는 것이다.
Yuk(育,육) means nurturing and raising people through
Gyohwa( 敎化,교화 - edification / enlightenment).
사람은 가르침으로서 바로 잡지않는다면 그물에 폈다 오므렸다 하는 줄이 없는 것과 같으며,
의복에 깃을 달지 않음과 같다.
If people are not guided and corrected through a unified teaching,
it is like a fishing net missing its main drawcord(the cord used to open and close the net),
or like a garment crafted without a collar.
각자가 자신의 주장을 관철코져 가르치는 곳을 세우면 결국 중구난방을 이루게 되는 까닭에
가르침을 하나로서 관장하여 사람들을 보호하고 길러야 한다.
If individuals establish their own separate schools of teaching merely to push
their personal assertions, it will ultimately lead to utter chaos and fragmented opinions.
Therefore, teachingsmust be managed and overseen as a unified whole to protect
and nurture the people.

育은 以敎化育人也라 (육은 이교화육인야라)
Yuk means nurturing and raising people through edification and teaching.
人無定敎則罟不綱하며 (인무정교즉고불강하며)
If people do not havea defined, unified teaching,
it is like a fishing net(go) without its main rope(gang).
衣不領하며 各自樹門하여 (의불령하며 각자수문하여)
or a garment(ui) without a collar(ryeong),
with everyone setting up their own separate gates(schools of thought).
奔雜이 成焉이니 因此一其主敎하여 保育人衆이니라. (분잡이 성언이니 인차일기주교하여 보육인중이니라.)
As chaos confusion arise from this,
one must unify the primary teaching to protect and nurture the multitude of people.
[Explanation, 풀이]
중구난방식으로 각자 자신의 주장하는 바를 관찰코져 한다면
이는 입가진 사람들은 누구나 한마디씩 할 수 있다.
If everyone tries to push their own arguments in a disorganized,
chaotic manner, then anyone with a mouth can chime in with their own opinion.
이러한 어지러움을 하나의 가르침으로 하여 길르는것이 교육이라는 내용이다.
The core message here is that true education means managing this potential
chaos by nurturing people through a single, unified teaching.
眞理(진리)는 원래 하나이되 眞理(진리)를 가르치고 있다고 주장하고 있는 門(문)은 셀 수 없을 정도로 많다.
While Turth(眞理,진리) is originally one, the "gates"(sects or schools of thought)
claiming to teach this Truth(眞理,진리) are countless.
이는 마치 햇빛이 없는 어두움속에서 각종 촛불과 등불과 횃불이 서로 밝음을 다투는 것과 같을 것이다.
This is like various candles, lamps, and torches competing for brightness
against one another in the pitch-black darkness where there is no sunlight.
그러나 지루한 밤이 지나고 다시 光明(광명)이 밝아올때 무엇이 진정한 빛인가를 알 수 있게 될 것이다.
However, when the tedious night finally passes and the Cosmic Light(光明,광명)
shines forth once again,
evetyone will be able to see clearly what the one true light actually is.
