Gwonseom(權贍,권섬) means encouraging acts of generous and magnaimous virtue. 너그러운 덕이 있는 사람중에는 성품이 혹 남보다 뛰어난것을 좋아하여 그 덕이 널리 미치게함을 일삼지않으며 스스로 착하고 어짐에 머무르니 마땅히 너그러운 덕행을 권하여 나아가 이루도록 하여야 한다. Among those who possess a generous virtus, some may have a disposition that enjoys being superior to dthers, thus failing to make it their constant practice to let their virtue reach widely. lnstead, they remain content with being personnally good and benevolent. therefore, one must rightfully encourage them to perform generous acts of virtus so that they may step forward and fulfill it. [Original Text, 원문] 權贍者는 權裕德也라 (권섬자는 권유덕야라) Gwonseom means encouraging and advising generous virtue. 有裕德者는 性或好勝하여(유유덕자는 성혹호승하여) Among those who possess generous virtue, their nature is sometimes fond of outdoing others. 不事流育하고 自善其賢하여 宜權而進就라. (불사류육하고 자선기현하여 의권이진취라.) so they do not dedicate themselves to spreading and nurturing virtue widely, remaining content with their own personal goodness and wisdom. Thus, it is fitting to encourage them so that they may advance and accomplish it. |
