제 37위 力收(역수)......거두어 들임에 힘씀......第138事
No. 37 : Yeoksu(力收,역수)... Striving to Reap results... The 138th Matter.
力收(역수)는 힘을 한곳에 쏟아 공을 거두는 것이다.
"Yeoksu(力收,역수)" means focusing all one′s strength and energy into a single
place to achieve successful results.
굴러 떨어진 돌은 능히 다듬지 못하고, 가죽나무는 능히 곧게하지 못한다.
A rolling stone cannot be properly shaped,
and a wild ailanthus tree(vile tree) cannot be made straight.
분별이 없고 어리석음은 교화하기에 불가능한 것으로 반드시 교화하는 힘을 분산하지 말고
한곳에 쏟아 교화 불가능한 사람이 주위사람을 물들지 못하게 하라.
Those who lack discernment and are deeliy foolish are impossible to enlighten or reform.
Therefore, do not scatter your efforts to reform them;instead, concentrate
your strength in one place to prevent such unreformable people from cdrrupting
or influenaing those around them.
[Interpretation, 원문]
力收者는 專力以收功也라 (역수자는 전력이수공야라)
Those who practice 'Yeoksu'(focused reaping) concentrate
all their strength to achieve successful results.
磅石은 不能琢하고 樗木은 不能直하며 (방석은 불능탁하고 저목은 불능직하며)
A jagged, rolling stone cannot be carved or polished,
and a wild ailanthus tree(a useless tree) cannot be made straight.
獃愚는 不能化니 必用力收하여 物染漬於隣이니라. (애우는 불능화니 필용역수하여 물염지어린이니라.)
Those who are deeply foolish and ignarant cannot be reformed or enlightened;
therefore, you must focus your efforts selectively to prevent them from
corrupting or influencing those around them.
[Interpretation, 풀이]
가르침을 베푸는것은 누구에게나 기회가 가야겠지만, 교화의 공을 이루는 것은 누구에게나 이룰수 있지 않다.
While the opportunity to receive teachings should be given to everyone,
achieving the actual merit of reformation cannot be accomplished with just anyone.
따라서 이룰수 있는 사람을 가려서 힘을 쏟지 않는다면 시간을 무한정 낭비하는 결과가 된다.
Therefore, if you do not focus your energy selectiively on those who are ccapable
of being reformed, it will only result in an endless waste of time.
