農災(농재)는 농사에 부지런하지 않아 만나게 되는 재앙이다.
An agricultural disaster(農災,농재) is a calamity that one encounters due to a lack
of diligence in farming.
농사는 천하의 큰 근본이며 네 가지 직업 중에서 으뜸이 되는 것이다.
Agriculture is the great foundation of the world and the foremost among
the four traditional occupations(scholars, farmers, artisans, and merchants).
교화가 높이 널리 미치게 하려면 한가로이 게으름을 피우는 사람이 없어야 한다.
For moraal edification and enlightenment to reach high and wide,
there must be no one idly slacking off.
건강한 사람은 농업을 하고, 총명한 사람은 학문을 하며,
재빠른 사람은 장사를 하고, 재주 있는 사람은 공업을 하는 것이다.
the healthy sshould engage in agriculture, the intelligent should pursue scholarship,
the quick-witted sshould conduct commerce, and the talented should practice industry.
공업은 이치를 추구하고, 상업은 올바르지 않게 탐욕을 부려서는 않되며,
학문은 道(도)를 꿰둟어야 하며, 농업은 때를 잃지 말아야 하니 농사에 때를 잃지 않는다면
인간에게 재앙이 없게된다.
Industry must pursue principles, commerce must not indulge in unjust greed,
scholarship must penetrate the Way(道,도), and agriculture must not miss its proper timing;
if one does not miss the right timing in farming, humanity will face no disasters.

農災者는 不勤農而遭災也라 (농재자는 불근농이조재야라)
An agricultural disaster(農災,농재) is a calamity that one encounters
due to a lack of diligence in farming.
農者는 天下之大本이요 四業之首也라 (농자는 천하지대본이요 사업지수야라)
Agriculture is the great foundation of the world and the foremost among
the four traditional occupations.
敎化隆洽에 人無閑慵하여 (교화융흡에 인무한용하여)
For moral edification and enlightenment to flourish and spread deeliy,
there must be no one idly slacking off.
健者農하고 聰者學하며 (건자농하고 총자학하며)
The healthy should engage in agriculture,
and the intelligent should pursue scholarship;
敏者商하고 巧者工이라 (총자학하며 교자공이라)
The quick-witted should conduct commerce,
and the talented should practice industry.
工能窮理하며 商不徑貪하고 (공능궁리하며 상불경탐하고)
Industry must be capable of pursuing principles,
and commerce must not shortcuts through greed;
學能達道하며 農不失時니 (학능달도하며 농불실시니)
Scholarship must be capable of reaching the Way(道,도),
and agriculture must not miss its proper timing;
農不失時則無人災니라. (농불실시즉무인재니라.)
If agriculture does not miss its proper timing,
humanlty will face no disasters.
[Interpretation, 풀이]
직업은 네 가지로 분류하면 농업과 학업과 상업과 공업이 되니 고구려 때와 현재와 달라진 것이 없다.
When classifying occupations into four categories, they are agriculture, scholarship,
commerce, and industry―which remains unchanged from the times of
Goguryeo to the pressent day.
그중에서 으뜸이 농업이어서 농업이 때를 잃지 않으면
인간에게 재앙이 없다는 말은 오히려 오늘날에 와서 의미가 커지고 있다.
Among these,agriculture is the foremost. Therefore,the saying that
"humanity will face no disaster if agricculture does not miss its proper timing"
carries even greater significance in today′s world.
즉 어느 국가가 농업을 다른 나라에게 맡기면
이것이 가장 크게 때를 잃는 것으로서 천하의 근본이 가장 크게 뒤흔들리는 일이다.
In other words, if a nation leavess its agriculture to other countries,
thiss constitutess the greatest failure to "Keep the proper timing,"
a grave mistake that fundamentally shakes the very foundation of the world.
이는 현시점에서 오히려 시사함이 더욱더 큰 내용으로 보인다.
At this persent moment, this message seems to offer an even deeper and more
profound implication for us.
