  Section 14 : Cheok-byeok(拓闢,척벽)... Cultivating the backlands... Item No. 162


拓闢(척벽)은 후미지고 거친 땅을 개척하여 여는 것이다.
  Cheok-byeok(拓闢,척벽) means to cultivate and open up secluded and rugged lands.

하늘이 인간을 구제함에 있어 먼저 물자를 여는 것이다.
  When Heaven saves mankind, it first opens up the material trsources.

후미진 곳에 사람이 없고 거친 땅에 물건이 없으니옛적에 神聖(신성)한 분께서 땅을 열기 시작하여
어질고 지혜로운 사람이 보완하였고어리석은 사람이 이를 계승하면 교화가 끝난 것이다.
  In secluded places, there are no people; in rugged lands, there are no goods,
  In ancient times, a Sacred One began to open the land,
  benevolent and wise people compiemented it, and if foolish people inherit this,
  the moral transformation(education / enlightenment) is complete.

拓闢者는 拓闢僻荒也라 (척벽자는 척벽벽황야라)
  Those who cultivate andd open lands are opening up the secluded and wild areas.


天이 濟人에 先開物하나니 (천이 제인에 선개물하나니)
  When Heaven saves mankind, it first brings forth material resources.


故로 爲僻地無人하며 荒地無物하여 (고로 위벽지무인하여 황지무물하여)
  therefore, secluded lands lack people, and barren lands lack resources.


古以神聖而始하여 賢智而補하고 (고이신성이시하여 현지이보하고)
  In antiquity, the Sacred Ones initiated it, and the virtuous and wise complemented it,
 

愚昧而繼하여 敎化而終이니라. (우매이계하여 교화이종이니라.)
  and the simple-minded inherited it,
  thereby completing the process of moral transformation.


 [Explanation, 풀이]

제 162사는 開物(개물)을 설명한다.
 Item No. 162 explains "Gaemul(開物,개물 - Opening up Material Resources).

이 말은 한단고기에서 神市開物敎化(신시개물교화)라는 말로 설명된다.
  This concept is described in Handan Gogi(한단고기) through the phrase
  "Sinsi Gaemul Gyohwa"(神市開物敎化,신시개물교화 - Opening resources and Enlightening
    the people in Sinsi).


즉 배달국의 한웅할아버지께서 신시에서 開天(개천)을 하시고 開地(개지),
開人(개인)을 하신 古事(고사)를 인용하였다.
  In other words, it cites the historical event(古事,고사) where Grandfather Hwanung(한웅할아버지)
  of the Baedal Kingdom(배달국) opened the heavens(開天,개천), openes the earth(開地,개지),
  and enlightened the people(開人,개인) in Sinsi.

본문에 神聖(신성)이라함은 이책의 첫머리의 聖靈(성령)과 같은 말로서 한웅할아버지를 말함이다.
  The term "Sacred One"(神聖,신성) in main text shares the same meaning
   as "Sacred Spirit"(聖靈,성령) found at the very beginning of this book,
   and it refers to Grandfather Hwanung.


따라서 옛적에 신성한 분께서 시작했다 함은 곧 神市開物敎化(신시개물교화)이며,
  Therefore, the statement that :a Sacred One initiated it in ancient times" refers to
   'Sinsi Gaemul Gyohwa"(Opening Resources and Enlightening the people in Sinsi).

어질고 현명한 분들이 이를 보완했다 함은 고구려 이전의
역대 배달민족의 지도자를 일컬음이니 역대한웅, 역대단군 등을 지칭한 것이다.
  Meanwhile, the statement that "virtuous and wise people complemented it"
  refers to the successive leaders of the Baedal ppeople prior to the Goguryeo Kingdom,
  pointing to the successive Hwanungs and Danjuns.


우매한 이가 이를 계승하여 교화가 끝났다 함은 배달국과 단군조선의 性通光明(성통광명), 
在世理化(재세이화), 弘益人間(홍익인간)의 빛나는 정신이 간혹 끊어졌다가 다시 이어지고 하는 것을 말한다.
  The statement that "the simple-minded inherited it,
  thereby completing the moral transformation" means that the brilliant spirit of
  Seongtong Gwangmyeong(性通光明,성통광명 - Realizing Nature and Radiant Enlightenment),
  Jaese lwha(在世理化,재세이화 - Governing the World with Reason),
  and Hongik lngan(弘益人間,홍익인간 - Broadly Benefiting Mankind) of the Baedal Kingdom
  and Gojoseon(Danjun Joseon) was occasionally severed but continued to be reconnected.

본 경전을 고구려의 을파소선생이 다시 편찬하신것이 그 대표적인 예이며
최근에는 한단고기등이 다시 출현하는 것 등이 그 예가 될 것이다.
  A prime example of this is when Master Eulpaso of Goguryeo re-compiled this sacred scripture,
  and another example in recent tiimes would be the re-emergence of texts like Handan Gogi.
  

생각 해보면 우리 민족의 신성 한 도(神性之道,신성지도)는
하늘의 별들만큼이나 많은 哲人(철인)들이  평생 동안 시간을 아껴 가며
세우고 지켜 왔던 이 세상에 유래를 찾기 어려운 역사를 가졌다.
  When reflecting upon it, the sacred Way of our nation(神性之道,신성지도 - The Way of Divinty)
  possesses a history unparalleled in the world, one that has been established and protected by
  countless sages(哲人,철인) as numerous as the stars in the sky,
  who cherished every moment throughout their lifetimes.
  

만들고 지키는 일은 哲人(철인)들도 어렵다.
  To build and protect it is a difficult task even for sages(哲人,철인).

그러나 그것을 망치는 일은 단지 우매한 사람 한명이면 족하다.
  However, ruining it requires no more than a single foolish person.


그리고 그것을 다시 일으키는 일은 수많은 哲人(철인)들이
오랜 세월 동안 피와 땀과 눈물을 한없이 흘릴것을 요구한다.
  And to rebuild it once again demands that countless sages(哲人,철인) shed their blood,
  sweat, and tears endlessly of time.
