이집트 멤피스의 황소 신이다. 원래는 나일강의 신 하피(Hapi)라 불렸지만, 나중에는 프타의 살아 있는 화신으로 여겨졌다. 이시스가 강한 불빛을 받고 잉태했다고 한다. 아피스가 죽어서 오시리스신이 되거나 혹은 오시리스 신 안으로 들어간다고 말해진다. 온 몸이 완전히 검은 색이되 이마에는 흰 삼각형 문양이 있는 소를 선택하여 아피스의 상징으로 삼는다. 아피스 사제들은 황소의 행동을 보고 예언을 읽어낸다. 아피스 황소가 죽으면 미이라로 만들어 그리스인들이 세라피움(Serapeum)이라고 부르는 지하묘당 사카라(Sakkarah)에서 성대한 예식을 치루고 묻어 준 뒤 사제들은 다음번 아피스 황소의 계승자로서의 표식이 있는 송아지를 찾아 헤맨다. 파라오들은 아피스 황소에게서 힘과 풍요를 나누어 받고 사후에 태양신에게로 갈 때도 도움을 받기 때문에 파라오와 아피스는 밀접하게 연관되어 있었다. 아피스 황소는 보통 뿔들 사이에 태양 원반을 얹고 머리에 성사(聖蛇) 우라에우스를 달고 있는 모습으로 그려진다.

This pendant shows the head of a lion on one side, and the head of a bull with a sun disk on the other side. It may have been a variation of amulets which displays two combined lions who represents the horizon. This variation adds the idea of the holy Apis bull who was particularly worshipped in the Late and Greco-Roman Periods.
