The lounging lions in Kenya’s Masai Mara game reserve looked harmless. They rolled on their backs in low-lying bushes. They rubbed their faces on branches as if trying to comb their magnificent manes. They drank leisurely from a stream. They strode slowly across dry, scrubby terrain as if they had all the time in the world. The only time I saw their teeth was when one of them yawned.
Their serene appearance is deceiving, however. The reason they can be so relaxed is that they have nothing to fear—no shortage of food and no natural predators. The lions look lazy and listless, but they are the strongest and fiercest of all. One roar sends all other animals running for their lives.
Sometimes it seems as if God is lounging. When we don’t see Him at work, we conclude that He’s not doing anything. We hear people mock God and deny His existence, and we anxiously wonder why He doesn’t defend Himself. But God “will not be afraid of their voice nor be disturbed by their noise”(Isa.31:4). He has nothing to fear. One roar from Him, and His detractors will scatter like rodents.
If you wonder why God isn’t anxious when you are, it’s because He has everything under control. He knows that Jesus, the Lion of Judah, will triumph. |

Isaiah 31:1-5
[1] Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the LORD!
[2] Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, And will not call back His words, But will arise against the house of evildoers, And against the help of those who work iniquity.
[3] Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; And their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, Both he who helps will fall, And he who is helped will fall down; They all will perish together.
[4] For thus the LORD has spoken to me： "As a lion roars, And a young lion over his prey (When a multitude of shepherds is summoned against him, He will not be afraid of their voice Nor be disturbed by their noise), So the LORD of hosts will come down To fight for Mount Zion and for its hill.
[5] Like birds flying about, So will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem. Defending, He will also deliver it; Passing over, He will preserve it." | |

울지 말라 유대 지파의 사자 다윗의 뿌리가 이기었으니－요한계시록 5:5

케냐의 마사이마라 동물보호구역에서 어슬렁거리며 다니는 사자들은 위험해 보이지 않았습니다. 그들은 낮은 덤불에 뒹굴기도 하고, 당당해 보이는 갈기를 빗질이라도 하는 것처럼 얼굴을 나뭇가지에 비벼댔습니다. 개울에서 한가롭게 물을 마시기도 하고, 세상에 바쁜 일이란 없다는 듯이 느린 걸음으로 메마르고 잡목이 우거진 지대를 가로지르면서 걸어 다녔습니다. 내가 그들의 이빨을 본 것은 그 중 한 마리가 하품을 했을 때뿐이었습니다.
하지만 이 평온한 겉모습은 속임수입니다. 사자들이 그렇게 여유로울 수 있는 것은 먹잇감이 부족하지도 않고 자연에는 자기들을 잡아먹는 동물이 없으므로 두려울 것이 없기 때문입니다. 사자들은 게으르고 무관심해 보이지만 정작 그들은 어떤 동물보다도 힘이 세고 포악합니다. 한번 포효하면 다른 모든 동물들이 목숨을 걸고 달아납니다.
하나님도 가끔은 어슬렁거리며 다니시는 것처럼 보일 때가 있습니다. 우리는 하나님께서 일하시는 것이 보이지 않으면 아무 것도 안하고 계시는 것으로 속단합니다. 사람들이 하나님을 조롱하고 그분의 존재를 부인하는 것을 들으면, 우리는 왜 하나님이 스스로를 변호하지 않으시는지 걱정하며 궁금해 합니다. 하지만 하나님은 “그들의 소리로 인하여 놀라지 아니할 것이요 그들의 떠듦을 인하여 굴복지 아니할”(사 31:4) 것입니다. 하나님께는 두려운 것이 전혀 없습니다. 하나님이 한번 포효하시면 하나님을 비방하던 자들은 쥐떼처럼 흩어질 것입니다.
당신이 걱정할 때 하나님은 왜 걱정하지 않으시는지 의아하게 생각되는 것은 그분이 모든 것을 주관하시기 때문입니다. 하나님은 유대의 사자이신 예수님이 승리하리라는 것을 알고 계시기 때문입니다. |

두려움과 염려가 당신의 믿음을 시험하고
근심 걱정이 당신을 엄습할 때
하나님께서 주관하시고
결코 실패하지 않으신다는 것을 기억하라 |
|

하나님께서 주관하시므로 우리는 두려울 것이 없다.

이사야 31:1-5
[1] 도움을 구하러 애굽으로 내려가는 자들은 화 있을진저 그들은 말을 의지하며 병거의 많음과 마병의 심히 강함을 의지하고 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이를 앙모하지 아니하며 여호와를 구하지 아니하나니
[2] 여호와께서도 지혜로우신즉 재앙을 내리실 것이라 그의 말씀들을 변하게 하지 아니하시고 일어나사 악행하는 자들의 집을 치시며 행악을 돕는 자들을 치시리니
[3] 애굽은 사람이요 신이 아니며 그들의 말들은 육체요 영이 아니라 여호와께서 그의 손을 펴시면 돕는 자도 넘어지며 도움을 받는 자도 엎드러져서 다 함께 멸망하리라
[4] 여호와께서 이같이 내게 이르시되 큰 사자나 젊은 사자가 자기의 먹이를 움키고 으르렁거릴 때에 그것을 치려고 여러 목자를 불러 왔다 할지라도 그것이 그들의 소리로 말미암아 놀라지 아니할 것이요 그들의 떠듦으로 말미암아 굴복하지 아니할 것이라 이와 같이 나 여호와가 강림하여 시온 산과 그 언덕에서 싸울 것이라
[5] 새가 날개 치며 그 새끼를 보호함 같이 나 만군의 여호와가 예루살렘을 보호할 것이라 그것을 호위하며 건지며 뛰어넘어 구원하리라 하셨느니라 | |
