편지 보내며 시를 쓰네

" 이국에 있는 친구에게 편지를 써서 부칠 때 주소만 정확하다면 꼭 전달되는
국제우편은 신비롭기만 합니다. 그 편지를 받은 친구가 답장을 보내오면 예를 들어 영국이나 독일에 있는 친구에게서 편지 답장이 왔다면 참으로 신기하며 다음 번엔 글을 좀더 잘 써서 보내려고 책도 읽고 하면서 글쓰기 공부를 더많이 하게 되겠지요! 이렇게 편지를 왕래하는 친구가 있다면 그 사람은 글 솜씨가 아주 빨리 늘 것 같애요. 옛날에 펜팔할 때도 그랬을 걸요! 그러다 젊을 때 생활의 바쁨과 변화에 휩쓸려 멀어져 갔고 이젠 그립던 추억으로 남아 있겠지요! 하지만 시쓰기나 시문학공부는 편지 받는 친구가 있거나 혹은 당장엔 없더라도 멈추지 않고 계속할 수 있겠지요! 그리고 편지글처럼 조금씩 시를 잘 쓰거나 잘 이해하게 될 것 같애요! 이렇게 말씀드리니 시공부를 편지 쓰는 마음으로 해도 될 것 같애요. 친구에게 쓰는 편지글 속에도 비유법이나 상징 아이러니 같은 글이 들어갈 수도 있겠지요! 물론 오래 연습해야 하겠지만서두요! 감사합니다." 양정린 시인이 시와 편지를 비교 설명하였다.
'The Letter' 라는 시를 가지고 왔는데 폴라 선생님께 낭송을 부탁드렸다.
"
The Letter / Byul Mool
I usually wrote the letters at times at the young ages
But while living, the former days are gradually gone far away
Now presently I send the letters to the old yearning friends
Only within a world of mind as like dreaming.
When writing a letter, I might feel as if visiting hometown
And soon there is seen the starring water of the stream
The bridge over which the buses would pass looks being at leisure
Now that writing the letter have changed into writing of the poems
When I pose a poem it seems to me as like writing letter to a friend of mine
And I usually feel as if I might walk the road of the paddy fields of hometown.
Why does my mind become easy and comfortable when writing letter?
If we send the letters, then the enjoyment of waiting the answering letter
Will come
It is after all the waiting mind on which we are leaning with some dreaming
That we should live our individual mental living
If no one waits for you or me our mind would become lonely
and feel empty
The man whom his friends waits shall not be tedius or boring but happy
The way to become happy is to keep the good waitings in our minds
The habit of waiting the rising of the title of a poem is really warming
And even when walking not in a long minutes it would be possible
To find the materials for the poems
It seems good to hear the expression of the grand nature
Between the flows of times
Among the crowd of cars the voices would not be listened as well
But the songs of the little birds could be heard in their dialogues feebly
Though the inner words are not anticipated
At least the sentimentality of them seems to come even a little!
I try to write the time of feelings about such a hearing and a looking
And next moment I might easily forget about much of them
But they are warm and mild as the music having been heard
When I wrote a letter a long time ago! "
좀 긴 시이지만 폴라 선생님은 리듬을 살린 시의 감정을 살려내셨다. 모두 좋은 발음에 귀를 기울였다. 그리고 박수를 쳤다. 국찬성 시인도 히어링에 집중했고 미소와 함께 고개를 살짝 끄덕였다.
" 폴라 선생님 댁에 계시는 캐서린 디킨슨 양과 제인 로체스터 님이 같이 나오시면 긴 영시도 읽기 부탁드릴 수도 있을 것 같네요! 선생님께서 너무 힘드실지도 모른다는 생각이 들었습니다." 서국서 시인이 조심스럽게 의견을 말했다.
" 에밀리 디킨슨은 미국여류시인이었고
제인 에어는 영국 소설 주인공인데 두 분이 그 후손이신 것 같네요! "
도초희 시인이 얘기하고 원경화 시인도
그렇다고 긍정했다.
" 한물 덕곡 시인이 원래 시조 시인이었는데 영시를 많이 수록하여 모아놓았다는데 폴라 선생님 혼자선 힘드실 것 같네요! " 원경화 시인도 서 시인의 의견에 동의했다.
" 네! 두 젊은 시인들의 생각을 제가 물어 보겠습니다. 친절하신 시인님들께 감사드립니다." 폴라 선생님이 얘기하시면 두 영시인도 나올 것 같다.
별물시인팀은 시간을 활용하고 기동성을 살리기로 했다. 짧은 강의를 모아 누적된 효과를 살리기로 했다. 천번 강의듣기 달성하면 뭔가 배울 수 있지 않을까! 생각도 되었다. Good bye! So long! Take care! 모두 인사하고 또 강의 하고 듣기 약속했다.
폴라 선생님과 서국서 시인은 연희동 근처에서 변함없이 포옹하고 진중하게 작별 인사를 했다. 사랑합니다란 얘기 아직 못 하였지만 꼭 한 것만 같았다.
