성경에는 ‘인공지능(AI)’이라는 단어가 직접 등장하지는 않지만, 신학계에서는 AI 시대를 살아가는 현대인들에게 바벨탑의 교훈(창세기 11장)과 지식의 상대성(고린도전서 8장 1~3절) 등을 통해 영적, 도덕적 경고의 메시지를 찾습니다.
성경이 경고하는 AI 시대의 핵심 위험과 영적 과제는 다음과 같습니다:
바벨탑의 경고 (창 11:1~9): 인간이 기술을 극대화해 신의 영역에 닿으려 하거나 기술 자체를 절대화하는 것을 경계합니다. AI가 인간의 한계를 초월하여 인간을 통제하는 우상이 될 수 있음을 경고합니다.
지식 만능주의의 함정 (고전 8:1~3): AI는 방대한 지식을 0.5초 만에 제공하지만, 지식 자체가 인간의 구원이나 생명을 주지는 않습니다. "지식은 교만하게 하며 사랑은 덕을 세운다"는 말씀처럼, AI의 정보에 의존해 영적 분별력을 잃는 것을 경계해야 합니다.
본질적인 인간다움의 상실: 성경은 인간이 '하나님의 형상'으로 창조된 유일무이한 존재임을 강조합니다. 기계의 논리와 계산된 위로가 결코 채울 수 없는 인간 고유의 결핍과 아픔을 공감하는 능력을 상실하는 것을 경고합니다.
AI 시대에 성경은 기술 자체를 거부하기보다, 그것이 인간의 교만을 부추기거나 진리를 대체하지 않도록 영적 분별력을 가질 것을 당부합니다.

Biblical Warning for AI Generation
While the Bible does not explicitly mention Artificial Intelligence, theologians and scholars warn that AI carries immense spiritual and ethical risks. Key warnings include the idolatry of algorithms (surrendering truth and wisdom to machines over God), the temptation of human pride mirroring the Tower of Babel, and the scalable spread of deception.
1. The Tower of Babel (Genesis 11)
The Warning: Humanity united its technology and pride to "build a tower that reaches to the heavens" to make a name for themselves independent of God.
The Application: The drive toward artificial general intelligence (AGI) and transhumanism is often rooted in humanity's desire to transcend its God-given limits, essentially playing Creator.
2. Idolatry and Misplaced Trust (Psalm 115:8)
The Warning: "Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them."
The Application: When humans consult AI before seeking counsel from Scripture, prayer, or trusted leaders, algorithms become the dominant voice on truth. Scholars warn that AI can quickly become an idol of convenience and wisdom.
3. Deception and False Balances (2 Corinthians 11:14 & Proverbs 11:1)
The Warning: Satan masquerades as an "angel of light," and a "false balance is an abomination to the Lord."
The Application: Generative AI is highly capable of creating deepfakes, plagiarism, and convincing yet false information. Believers are warned to "test everything" (1 Thessalonians 5:21) and not to accept AI-generated theology or facts without verification.
4. The Loss of the Human Soul (Ecclesiastes 3:11 & Job 32:8)
The Warning: True beauty and spiritual inspiration come from the human spirit, which God breathed into us.
The Application: AI can generate patterns, art, and code, but it lacks a soul, lived experiences, and the breath of the Almighty. Using AI to completely replace human creativity and labor threatens to devalue the image of God in humanity.
