프리다 칼로 Frida Kahlo (1907-1954)
출생 멕시코시티 교회의 코요아칸
프리다 칼로는 20세기 멕시코 미술계를 대표하는 여루 초현실주의 화가.
벽화주의 운동의 세계적 거장인 멕시코의 대표적 화가 디에고 리베라의 아내이기도 하다.
그녀는 뛰어난 외모와 재능을 타고 났으나, 소아마비와 교통사고 후유증으로
평생 육체적 정신적 고통을 겪은 그녀는 자화상에 가장 집착했다.
양성애자이며 공산주의자로 격정적인 삶을 살았던 프리다 칼로는
훗날 페미니즘 미술의 대가로 평가받았으며,
1984년 멕시코 정부는 그녀의 작품을 국보로 분류하였다.
