‘침묵된 기억들’과 ‘존경을 담아’는 1976년 10월 6일 학살 사건에 태국 사회가 어떻게 침묵하고 외면해왔는지 담고 있습니다. 이 사건에 대한 논의는 거의 공론화되지 못했습니다. 두려움과 정의에 향한 희망 없는 상태는 유가족들에게 침묵만을 가져왔으며, 태국은 끊임없이 정치적 폭력의 굴레 안에서 상처만 남은 채 있게 됩니다.
파따라폰 감독은 2009년에 성공회대를 졸업했습니다. 정치적 폭력의 잔재들에 대한 그녀의 작업은 태국의 평화 박물관, 위안부문제 그리고 10월 6일 학살에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 그녀는 스스로가 이러한 작업들을 통해 더 많은 청중들과 소통하고 싶어한다는 것을 깨닫게 되었으며, 그녀는 영화작업을 끝내고 나서 다큐멘터리 영화로 전향하였습니다.
‘미사이 마르잣 – 정의를 위해 외치는 50명의 태국 열매 피커’는 50명의 태국 소농민 이야기로 꾸며져 있습니다. 그들은 스칸디나비아의 야생 숲열매를 따기 위해 밀거래를 하는 수천명의 태국 노동자들을 대신하여, 노동자들의 인권과 정의를 위해 숲열매 산업에 저항하여 핀란드에서 법정 소송을 벌였습니다.
준야 임프라서트는 태국의 노동운동가로 노동자들의 애환과 투쟁을 수년동안 촬영했습니다. 현재는 정치적 망명으로 인해 2010년부터 핀란드에서 거주하고 있습니다.

‘죽음 후의 민주주의’는 ‘민중의 삼촌’ 누암동 프라이완을 기리기 위해 만들어졌습니다. 그는 2006년에 군사 탱크에 저항하여 자신의 택시를 들이받았으며, 거기에 그치지 않고 자살을 통해 군사 쿠데타에 저항하는 행보를 보여주었습니다. 영화는 태국 사회의 짐을 해결하기 위해 그가 걸었던 어둠을 따라, 민중의 삼촌 누암의 죽음 이후의 상황이 전개됩니다.
영화는 2010년 이후 망명생활을 하고 있는 태국의 미디어 운동가들의 의해 만들어 졌습니다.

Discussion-time with film-makers

‘Silenced | Memories’ and ‘Respectfully Yours’ reflect on the silence and ignorance in Thai society surrounding the 6 October Massacre in 1976. Discussion of this incident rarely reaches public space. While fear and absence of hope for justice have silenced the families of the victims, Thailand’s forever repeating cycles of political violence ensure that political wounds remain open.

Film-maker Pattaraphon graduated from SKHU in 2009. Her work on memories of political violence focus on the themes of the Peace Museum, on Comfort Women and on the 6 October Massacre in Thailand. She realised she wanted her research work to reach a wider audience. After her first film she found she couldn’t stop transforming her research into documentary film.

‘MISSÄ MARJAT - 50 Thai berry pickers speak-out for justice.’ follows the story of 50 Thai small-farmers who, on behalf of thousands of Thai workers trafficked to pick wild forest-berries in Scandinavia, stood-up for their dignity and for justice and took their case against the forest-berry industry to a court of law in Finland.

Junya Yimprasert, a Thai labour activist, has been documenting worker’s struggles for many years. Now in political exile she has been living in Finland since 2010.

DEMOCRACY AFTER DEATH pays respect to Uncle Nuamthong Praiwan who rammed his taxi into a military tank during the 2006 military coup and then continued his protest against the coup by making public suicide. The movie traces Uncle Nuam’s life after death, as he walks through the darkness in search of solutions to the burdens of Thai society.

The film is produced by a group of Thai media activists living in exile since 2010.
