주님께서 주시는 평안 (1,300번째 주일예배 설교 노트)
(6/21/26 본문:요 14:23-31)
예수님께서 얼마 남지 않은 공생애 사역을 앞두고, 제자들을 향해 “나의 평안을 너희에게 주노라”고 말씀하셨습니다. 이 말씀은 주님께서 하나님의 자녀들이 거할 천국의 처소를 마련하시기 위해 천국으로 올라가신다는 것을 알고, 불안해하는 제자들의 마음에 평안을 주시기 위해 보혜사 성령님을 보내주신다는 언약의 말씀이었습니다(요 14:27).
주님께서 십자가에 달려 돌아가시고 삼일 만에 부활하시고 승천하시므로 유대 땅에서 공생애를 마치셨습니다. 그리고 성령님을 보내 주셔서 제자들과 함께 있게 하시므로 성령님 안에서 평안을 누리도록 섭리하신 것입니다. 이것이 바로 주님께서 우리에게 주시는 평안으로, 성령님께서 우리 안에 거하시므로 우리의 영혼을 소성케 하시고, 나아가 주님의 새 언약과 가르치심을 생각나게 하시고, 우리를 향한 하나님의 모든 뜻을 가르쳐 주시는 것입니다(요 14;26).
육신의 연약함을 인해 주님을 부인하고 배반했던 제자들에게 권능을 주시므로 주님을 부인하지 않고 주님이 명하시고 분부하신 것을 수행할 수 있게 하신 것입니다(행 1:8). 무엇보다 만민을 구원하시기 위해 주님의 주신 지상명령 곧 땅 끝까지 모든 민족에게 복음을 전파하는 사명을 감당할 수 있게 되었습니다(마 28:18-20).
진리의 성령님이 오신 것은 예수 그리스도의 복음으로 말미암는 영혼구원의 역사를 지속적으로 이루시기 위함입니다. 나아가 주님이 주신 ‘서로 사랑하라’는 새 계명을 지키도록 성령님께서 함께 하신 것입니다. 또한 성령님께서 함께 하시므로 “항상 선을 좇으며, 항상 기뻐하며, 쉬지 말고 기도하며, 범사에 감사하라는 하나님의 뜻을 행하게 되었습니다(살전 5:15-18).
하나님의 깊은 것이라도 통달하시는 성령님이 오시면, 사랑하는 자녀들을 위하여 예비하신 하나님의 모든 것을 알리시고 가르쳐 주실 것입니다(고전 2:9-10). 또한 ”수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라(마 11:28)“는 주님의 말씀이 우리 안에서 이루어지도록, 성령님께서 도와주시므로 주님이 주시는 평안을 누릴 수 있게 되었습니다(마 11:28-30).
주님께서 우리들에게 주시는 평안은 성령님을 우리 자신 안에 모시고 살아가므로, 우리의 심령 안에 하나님의 지혜와 능력이 소성되어 우리들의 마음이 평안을 누리게 되는 것입니다. 우리가 아무것도 염려하지 않고, 오직 모든 일에 기도와 간구로 우리의 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰면, 하나님의 평강이 우리의 마음과 생각을 지켜 주실 것입니다(빌 4:6-7).
예수님께서 공생애 시작과 더불어 갈릴리 해변 동네인 가버나움에 사시며, 갈릴리바다 인근지역에 거주하는 주민들을 상대로 그리스도의 복음이 전파하셨습니다. 종말의 때가 가까이 오므로 하나님 아버지께서 보혜사 성령님을 보내셔서, 온 세계 모든 민족이 있는 곳까지 복음을 전파되어 많은 영혼 구원의 역사를 이루도록 지평을 넓히셨습니다(시 67:1-3).
우리가 그리스도 안에서 선을 행하도록 우리 속에 계셔서 착한 일를 시작하신 성령님께서, 그리스도의 강림하실 그 날까지 우리를 거룩하게 하여 주시고 성령의 열매를 맺도록 인도하여 주실 것입니다(빌 1:6). 또한 성도들이 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 의의 열매가 가득하여 하나님의 영광과 찬송이 되도록 우리 안에서 간구하여 주실 것입니다(빌 1:11).
주님이 주시는 평안은 참된 평화로 우리의 마음을 지키게 하며, 영생을 추구하는 소망을 새롭게 합니다. 세상이 주는 일시적인 평화가 아니라 우리의 영혼육을 소성하며 평안하게 하는 진정한 평화를 말하는 것입니다(요삼 1:2). 주님께서 우리를 푸른 초장으로 쉴만한 물가로 인도하시며 시련과 고난을 이기도록 우리와 함께 하시며 지켜 주실 것입니다(시 23:1-3)
종말의 시대에서 우리는 주님 안에서와 성령님의 능력으로 강건하여 지고 마귀의 궤계를 능히 대적하기 위해 하나님의 전신갑주를 입어야 합니다(엡 6:10-11). 진리의 허리띠와 의의 흉배와 평안의 복음의 예비한 신을 신고, 믿음의 방패를 갖고 성령의 검 하나님의 말씀을 가져야 합니다(엡 6:14-17). 나아가 모든 기도와 간구를 성령님 안에서 행하고, 그리스도의 복음을 담대히 전파하고 이웃을 자신의 몸처럼 사랑하므로 하나님의 영혼 구원의 역사에 동참하여야 합니다(엡 6:18-20).

The peace given by the Lord
(6/21/26 Text: John 14:23-31)
With only a short time left of His public ministry, Jesus said to His disciples, “My peace I give you.” This was a word of covenant promising to send the Holy Spirit, the Counselor, to give peace to the hearts of the disciples who were anxious, knowing that the Lord was ascending to Heaven to prepare a dwelling place for God’s children (John 14:27).
The Lord concluded His public ministry in the land of Judea by dying on the cross, resurrecting on the third day, and ascending. Furthermore, He providentially arranged for us to enjoy peace in the Holy Spirit by sending the Holy Spirit to be with His disciples. This is the very peace that the Lord gives us, as the Holy Spirit dwells within us, reviving our souls, reminding us of the Lord’s new covenant and teachings, and revealing to us all of God’s will for us (John 14:26).
By giving power to the disciples who had denied and betrayed the Lord due to their physical weakness, He enabled them to carry out what the Lord commanded and directed without denying Him (Acts 1:8). Above all, they became able to fulfill the Great Commission given by the Lord to save all people—that is, the mission to preach the gospel to all nations to the ends of the earth (Matthew 28:18-20).
The coming of the Holy Spirit of Truth is to continuously accomplish the work of soul salvation through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit has been with us to enable us to keep the new commandment given by the Lord, "Love one another." Also, because the Holy Spirit is with us, we have come to do the will of God: “always pursue what is good, always rejoice, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:15-18).
When the Holy Spirit, who understands even the deep things of God, comes, He will reveal and teach us all that God has prepared for His beloved children (1 Corinthians 2:9-10). Furthermore, because the Holy Spirit helps to fulfill the Lord’s words within us—“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28)—we have become able to enjoy the peace given by the Lord (Matthew 11:28-30).
The peace that the Lord gives us comes from living with the Holy Spirit within us, so that God's wisdom and power are revived in our hearts, allowing our minds to enjoy peace. If we do not worry about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let our requests be made known to God, the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:6-7).
At the beginning of His public ministry, Jesus lived in the town of Capernaum in Galilee and preached the Gospel of Christ to the residents living in the area near the Sea of Galilee. As the end times drew near, God the Father sent the Holy Spirit, the Counselor, to expand the horizon so that the Gospel could be preached to every nation of the world and accomplish the work of saving many souls (Psalm 67:1-3).
The Holy Spirit, who dwells within us and began a good work so that we might do good in Christ, will sanctify us and lead us to bear the fruit of the Spirit until the day of Christ's coming (Philippians 1:6). He will also intercede within us so that the saints may be filled with the fruit of righteousness through Jesus Christ, becoming the glory and praise of God (Philippians 1:11).
The peace given by the Lord is true peace that guards our hearts and renews our hope in seeking eternal life. It refers not to the temporary peace offered by the world, but to a genuine peace that restores and brings peace to our soul, body, and spirit (3 John 1:2). The Lord will lead us to green pastures and beside still waters, and He will be with us and protect us so that we may overcome trials and hardships (Psalm 23:1-3).
In the end times, we must be strengthened in the Lord and by the power of the Holy Spirit, and put on the full armor of God to be able to stand against the schemes of the devil (Eph 6:10-11). We must put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, and the shoes prepared with the gospel of peace; hold the shield of faith; and take the sword of the Spirit, the word of God (Eph 6:14-17). Furthermore, we must participate in God’s work of saving souls by performing all prayers and supplications in the Holy Spirit, boldly preaching the gospel of Christ, and loving our neighbors as ourselves (Eph 6:18-20).
