Why are you late? Why so late?
by D.J. YOON
I told you to come home right after school.
Why are you late? Why so late?
The little sparrows asked me again and again,
“Did you have fun at school today, friend?”
I told you to come home right after class.
Why are you late? Why so late?
A dandelion grabbed my shoe and said,
“Why are you rushing? Slow down instead.”

Appreciation Review 感想
D.J. Yoon’s poem “Why Are You Late? Why So Late?” is a delightful and heartwarming piece that gently captures the rich imagination of a child and their deep connection with nature.
Through simple, repetitive lines and friendly dialogue with sparrows and a dandelion, the poem reflects a world where even the smallest parts of nature become companions and voices of curiosity.
The gentle rhythm and easy vocabulary make it perfect for young readers, while the deeper message — reminding us all to slow down and appreciate life’s little moments — offers a quiet wisdom that resonates with readers of all ages.
It’s a charming celebration of wonder, playfulness, and the beauty of simply taking one’s time.
