이번에는 소유물에 –ed를 붙여 소유관계를 나타내는 앞수식어입니다.
(1) tree-eyed raven = raven with three eyes
(2) like-minded people = people with a like mind: 같은 생각/취향을 가진 사람들
(3) able-bodied people = people with an able body: 성한 몸을 가진 사람들
(4) is tight-lipped = have tight lips: 꽉 닫힌 입술을 가지고 있다 (함구하다)
warm-hearted person: 마음이 따듯한 사람
strong-willed person: 의지가 강한 사람
broad-minded person: 생각이 넓은 사람
cold-blooded murderer: 피가 차가운 (잔인한) 살인자
absent-minded person: 정신 없는 사람
near-sighted man: 근시
farsighted plan: 멀리 내다보는 계획
double-edged sword: 양날의 검
half-hearted effort: 미지근한 노력
그런데 자주 쓰이는 앞수식어는 –ed를 빼기도 해요:

(2, 3은) 더욱 간결하게 뒤의 명사 people을 빼도 됩니다 (칼럼 6.5). 그런데 주의할 것은요~ 칼럼 6.5에서 앞에 the를 붙이면 “전체”의 의미가 더해진다고 설명드렸죠? (2)는 몸이 성한 사람에 대해 일반적으로 하는 말이므로 the able bodied 이렇게 써줘도 됩니다. 그러나 (3)은 취향이 같은 사람 모두와 만나는건 아니죠? 그중 몇몇 사람을 만나는 것입니다. 그래서 the는 빼고 복수로 만들어줍니다.
