인사말 나마스떼 namaste 는 불교적인가?
독자 평 ; 얼른 들으면 일본어로 오해를 하겠지만
산스크스어에서 유래하는 나마스떼는
인도에서 합장과 함께 사용하는데
집, 공공 장소, 전화 시, 길에서 ,, 어디서나 사용하는 인시말로 되 있다.
대화를 시작하기 전이나 또는 가끔 대화 끝나고나서도 사용을 한다.
헌데 한국 인터넷 일부는 잘못 번역을 해서
신에대한 경배를 더 부각시켜서
인간적인 종교에는 부적한것으로 오해하게 해석을 했다.
고대에는 종교는 어느 종교나 신을 바탕으로 이루어졌고
불교가 신 보다는 인간적 종교로 슬며시 전환되기 시작하는건 80년도 안되는 짧은 기간이다.
영어에는 쌍 자음 ㄲ, ㄸ, ㅃ, ㅆ, ㅉ 등이 없어서 ‘떼’가아닌 te 테’로 발음을 하지만
나마스떼가 바른 발음인것같다.

나마스떼가 불교적인가?에 관심을 가진것은
만일 신에대해서만 사용되는 인사말이라면
불교에서 사용하기에는 부적합하다.
그러나 원어를 해석해 놓은 것을 보면 다양하게 여러 의미로 해석되므로
불교에서 사용해도 되는 인사말이라 생각이 된다.

인도의 전통 인사말 나마스떼 (Namaste)의 의미
나마스떼(Namaste)는 인도 고대어인 산스크리트어로
"Namaste"는 "Namah"와 "Aste"가 합쳐진 말로
"Namah"는 "Honor or Worship" 즉, 존중하다는 뜻이고
'Aste"는 "to you" 즉, "당신에게"라는 의미를 가지고 있습니다.
그래서 "나마스떼"란 "I honor you."로 "당신을 존중합니다"라는 의미라고 한다.
특히 "Aste"는 일반적으로 단순히 상대방을 지칭하는 것이 아니라,
상대방의 깊은 "내면의 마음자리"를 의미 한다고 하며,
그 마음자리는 "너 와 나","우리 모두"가 함께 공유하는 것임을 일깨우며 나누는 인사가 바로 나마스떼(Namaste) 이다.
