10세의 나이로 연주하여 세계 최연소 레코딩의 기록을 남긴 역사적 음반으로, 사라사테의 ‘카르멘 환상곡’, 엘가의 ‘사랑의 인사’ 등 유명 클래식 소품을 1/4 사이즈의 바이올린으로 연주한 신동의 면모가 물씬 풍겨나는 녹음으로, 사라 장의 수많은 음반 중 가장 많은 사랑을 받은 명반이다.
계몽사-EMI시절, 한국에서만 유일하게 LP로 제작, 발매된 본 앨범이 EMI의 엔젤 레코드(Angel Records)에서 유니버설뮤직 산하로 권리가 이관되어, 최초 발매 된지 27년 만에 당시 발매된 오리지널 초반 아트웍과 유니버설뮤직으로부터 제공된 오리지널 마스터 음원을 바탕으로, 보다 생동감 넘치는 사운드로 다시 태어난다.

Her tone is pliant and imaginatively modulated, whilst every purely mechanical aspect of her technique seems to be already fully formed. None of the formidable demands of the Sarasate Carmen Fantasy (heard in Zino Francescatti’s edition) challenge her in any degree; (...) this is an astonishing disc. Sarah Chang’s playing will enthral and captivate in equal measure. I can do little more than echo Sir Yehudi Menuhin’s observation: “Sarah is the most ideal violinist I have ever heard” - I would urge you to hear this disc as a matter of priority.

당시, 11세의 나이로 첫 번째 바이올린 협주곡을 녹음함으로써, 수많은 협주곡 녹음을 시작하게 되는 사라 장의 행보를 가늠할 수 있었던 음반으로, 런던 심포니 오케스트라와 콜린 데이비스 경의 지휘 아래, 당당하게 펼쳐지는 사라 장의 신동으로서의 면모를 확인 할수 있는 명반이다. 함께 수록된 브람스의 헝가리 무곡 또한 사라 장의 장기가 녹아있는 사랑스러운 연주이다.

Not only does Chang play with exceptionally pure tone, avoiding heavy coloration, her individual artistry does not demand the wayward pulling-about often found in this work. (…) when the tone is so true and sweet and the shading so refined, contrasting with the heavy underlining which marks the other versions here. In the outer movements Chang conveys wit along with the power and poetry, and the intonations is immaculate.
