고난의 운명을 지고, 역사의 능선을 타고,
이 밤도 허위적거리며 가야만 하는 겨레가 있다.
고지가 바로 저긴데 예서 말 수는 없다.
Loaded with tormenting destiny
Along the hillcrest of history;
There is a race of people, 
who must struggle through this night.
For finish-line is right o’er there,
We could not cease here.

넘어지고 깨어지고라도 한 조각 심장만 남거들랑
부둥켜 안고 가야만 하는 겨레가 있다.
새는 날 핏속에 웃는 모습 다시 한번 보고 싶다.
Though fallen and broken,
If, at all, a piece of heart left survived;
There is a race of people
Who must move on embracing themselves.
I wish to see again their smiling faces
Deep down in blood, on full bright day.
