월레스는 장로교 목사 가정에서 태어났지만,
유년시절에 일찍 아버지를 여의었다. 그후
반듯하게 성장하여 훗날 법률가와 문학가로
유명해졌다. 아름다움과 상상력... 영감이
풍부한 시로 삶을 잘 표현하고 있다.
아마도 자신의 성장에 엄마 역할이
컸다는 사실을 증거하는 것이 아닐까?
동명의 스코트 영웅 윌리엄 월레스를
기리는 영화 '브레이브 하트'에 등장하는
유명대사가 있지만... 실제로는 시인인
윌리엄 로스 월레스가 남긴 불후의
명언을 영화에서 차용한 것이다.

really lives. 누구나 죽기 마련이지만,
살았다고 모두가 산 것은 아니다.
또 하나의 시와 관련된 제목을 지닌
영화가 1992년에 등장하였다. 공포의
내용을 극대화한 영화로 평가받고 있는
'요람을 흔드는 손'이다. 우리나라에서도
