Finbar is Dr. Smolder Bravestone's sidekick. According to Nigel Billingsley's information, he has never left Bravestone's side after Bravestone rescued him from the clutches of a warlord in the jungles of Peru. He earned his nickname "Mouse" from his small stature and apparent adorable personality, even though Fridge initially chose Finbar as Spencer misread his nickname on the avatar select screen as "Moose", which Fridge liked thinking this would mean he would be big and awesome. When Nigel corrected this mistake, Fridge was shocked to discover he was the exact opposite (short and he was actually a credit to the nickname "Mouse"). His symbol on the 2017 film's closing credits next to his actor's credit is a Mouse, referencing Finbar's affectionate nickname and his ironic ability to tame an Elephant when they are traditionally terrified of them.
His symbol on the player select screen is a backpack with pick-axes, reflecting his role as a weapons valet, and as such, he carries a variety of weapons in his bag and gives them to Bravestone whenever he needs one.
But this is probably a contributing factor to his weakness as a slow runner, possibly due to his backpack being loaded with weapons or because of his short stature or a combination of both.
Being a Zoologist, he is an expert on animal characteristics and biology, giving him helpful knowledge enough to advise his companions on the various creatures of Jumanji. He was the only character who knew how to de-fang a Black Mamba to render it harmless, and was even able to tame an Elephant into giving him a helpful ride to the Jaguar Shrine. In the Mountain Fortress Adventure, it is revealed that he can even understand and talk to animals.
Consuming cake causes him to explode. Fridge found this out the hard way when he ate the Pound Cake at the Bazaar. He is not very strong, evidently when he slapped Bravestone in the face to no effect, and subsequently sent flying by a returned punch from Bravestone.
