Description 특징
The burbot’s broad, flattened head and narrow, eel-like body quickly distinguishes it from other fish species. Also distinctive, is the burbot’s single whisker-like barbel that extends below its chin. Their overall colour is tan or brown overlain by a darker ‘lace-like’ pattern creating a camouflaged appearance.
버보트 모캐의 널찍하고, 평평한 대가리와 장어처럼 생긴 좁장한 몸통은 다른 고기의 종류들로부터 쉽게 구분할 수 있다. 또한 버보트 모캐의 달랑 한 개만 턱 밑에 불쑥 튀어나와 달려있는 콧수염 같은 더듬이 또한 확실하게 구분을 가능하게 한다. 이들의 전반적인 채색은 탠/황갈색 또는 어두운 래이스 장식과 같은 형식으로 위장된 모양으로 보이게 해주는 갈색으로 얼룩덜룩하게 채색되어 있다.
Habitat 서식
Burbot are found throughout Saskatchewan in large, cool rivers and more commonly in deep-water lakes. Throughout the summer months they remain in cooler deeper water but will move into shallower water at night to feed.
버보트 모캐는 사스캐추원의 전지역에서 크고 시원한 강과 또한 물이 깊은 호수에서 더 흔하게 발견된다. 여름철 내내 이놈들은 시원하고 깊은 물에 머물다가, 밤에는 먹이활동을 위해서 얕은 물로 이동하게 된다.
Spawning 산란(産卵)
The burbot is the only Saskatchewan fish species that spawns in midwinter, beneath the ice. Burbot are mass-spawners, meaning that during the spawning act a group of 10 to 12 male and female burbot gather over gravelly, near-shore shoals or shallow, sandy areas. The resultant fertilized eggs settle to the bottom to incubate. This spawning occurs only at night with females producing 40,000 to 1.3 million eggs depending on their size.
버보트는 사스카추원 고기 중에서 겨울이 한창인 가운데서 얼음 아래에서 산란을 하는 유일한 어종이다. 버보트 모케는 집단 산란어종인데, 이 말은 산란활동을 하는 중에 10에서 12마리 정도의 수놈과 암놈 버보트들이 자갈이 깔린 하천변의 물이 얕은 여울이나 또는 모래벌에 물이 얕으막한 지점에 모여서 집단으로 산란을 한다. 합성된 수정이 된 알들은 부화하기 위해서 바닥에 정착하게 된다. 이 산란은 암놈들이 낳은 4만개에서 1백3십만개의 알들에 그 규모에 따라서 가변적으로 오로지 밤에만 이루어진다.
Feeding 먹이
Peak feeding activity for these ferocious predators occurs at night. Prey preferences shift from aquatic insects and crayfish as juveniles to being almost exclusively fish-eaters as adults.
이 지독할 정도록 대단한 약탈자 육식동물 버보트 모캐의 가장 왕성한 먹이활동은 밤에 이루어진다. 먹이감들은 어렸을 때는 수생곤충들과 어린 왕새우/가재로부터 성어가 되면 오로지 거의 다른 고기들만을 선호하여 먹는 양태로 바뀐다.
Commonly called ‘ling’ or ‘mariah’, this native fish is the only true freshwater member of the cod family.
보통 링(대구 비슷한 식용어 고기이름)이나 마리아(고기이름)으로 불리는 이 토종 고기는 (바다고기) 코드/대구과에 속하는 고기중의 하나로 요놈은 대구과 중에서 민물에 사는 오직 진짜 유일한 놈이다.
