톨스토이의 「세 가지 질문」
어느 왕이 세 가지 질문에 대한 답을 찾고 있었어요.
가장 중요한 때는 언제인가?
가장 중요한 사람은 누구인가?
가장 중요한 일은 무엇인가?
왕은 많은 현자들에게 물었지만 모두 다른 답을 했어요. 그래서 깊은 지혜로 알려진 은자를 찾아갔어요.
은자는 밭을 일구고 있었어요. 왕은 질문을 했지만 은자는 대답하지 않았어요. 왕은 은자를 도와 함께 땅을 팠어요.
그러던 중 한 남자가 중상을 입은 채 나타났어요. 왕은 그를 정성껏 치료하고 돌보아 주었어요. 나중에 알고 보니 그는 원래 왕을 죽이려고 했던 적이었어요. 하지만 왕의 도움으로 목숨을 구하게 되자 적개심을 버리고 왕의 충실한 친구가 되었어요.
다음 날 왕은 다시 세 가지 질문을 했어요. 그러자 은자가 답했어요.
가장 중요한 때는 지금 이 순간입니다. 우리가 영향을 미칠 수 있는 유일한 시간이기 때문입니다.
가장 중요한 사람은 지금 내 앞에 있는 사람입니다. 사람은 누구나 똑같이 소중하기 때문입니다.
가장 중요한 일은 그 사람에게 도움이 되는 것입니다. 우리가 태어난 이유는 다른 사람들과 세상에 좋은 영향을 주기 위해서입니다.
결국 이 이야기의 핵심은 단순해요.
가장 중요한 순간은 지금 이 순간입니다.
가장 중요한 사람은 지금 내 앞에 있는 사람입니다.
가장 중요한 일은 그 사람에게 도움이 되는 일을 하는 것입니다.

The Three Questions
A king wanted answers to three questions:
1. What is the most important time?
2. Who is the most important person?
3. What is the most important thing to do?
Many wise people gave different answers, so the king visited a hermit renowned for wisdom.
The hermit was digging in his garden. Instead of talking, the king helped him dig. Later, a wounded man appeared. The king cared for him and saved his life. The man turned out to be an enemy who had planned to kill the king, but after being saved, he became a loyal friend.
The next day, the king again asked his three questions. The hermit replied:
• The most important time is now, because it is the only time we have any power over.
• The most important person is the one who is with you right now, because everyone is of equal importance.
• The most important thing to do good to that person. Because the reason we are born is to contribute positively to others and to humanity.
The Essence
The most important moment is this moment.
The most important person is the person in front of you.
The most important task is to benefit that person.
